It’s official: Brad Penny is a Giant

The Giants have signed Brad Penny to a minor league contract, it’s been confirmed. He’ll be added to the major league roster when rosters expand tomorrow. And yes, he’s eligible for the postseason — and more immediately, for Wednesday’s start against the Phillies.
There are other names rumored to be floating out there in the waning hours, most notably White Sox power hitters Jermaine Dye and Paul Konerko, but I’m told the Giants don’t expect any more moves this evening. And since any player they would acquire tomorrow would be ineligible for the postseason, it’s safe to say the Giants offense is what it is.

It is September and the Giants added six players today. More to come after Fresno plays its final game this week.
For now, Jesus Guzman, John Bowker and Waldis Joaquin have been recalled. Andres Torres and Rich Aurilia were activated from the DL. And the Giants purchase the contract of Brad Penny, who signed a minor league deal last night.
To clear a 40-man space for Penny, Emmanuel Burriss was transferred from the 15-day to the 60-day DL.

If Bowkermania really comes around that would be dope. Torres always gives it 110%, dude is fast. Guzman can hit but needs to work on his glove.
