which lee? the pitcher lee? and if we have to trade any top prospect it should be alderson, he impresses me the least. but def agree if we move a top guy it should be for someone who will be great for at least 3-4 years or more with us.

^^ hes not the only guy but ya someone like him def. doubtful padres will trade him within division, if at all. he's got one of the highest prices for any batter on the market too.

As we cruise closer to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, the Giants still boast one of baseball's most intriguing situations. The club is 52-46 -- 10 games behind the Dodgers in the National League West, but just two games back in the Wild Card. Most experts agree they need a bat to continue contending, and they've been linked recently to sluggers like Victor Martinez, Ryan Garko and Nick Johnson.

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle recently heard "word from [Giants] general manager Brian Sabean that chances for a deal are 50-50."

"We're talking," manager Bruce Bochy said Sunday as his club prepared to head home after a long road trip. "I'll talk to Brian. I'll discuss it with the staff on the plane on the way back and see what we can do to get this thing going again."

Schulman believes the Giants might also have interest in Toronto's Marco Scutaro or Baltimore's Aubrey Huff. Either way, it's pretty clear what San Francisco is seeking as Friday's deadline nears: offense.

Garko could be dope, hes under 30 and has a decent bat. whatever we dont, just dont get ripped off

we need to acquire a true power bat, someone in the middle of our line up preferably clean up and have bengie either hit in the 2 spot or 5th spot. If we could acquire another bonds type threat without giving up all of our farm system and starting rotation i would be happy.

We seem to lack in developing position players, but pitching is another story.

The first two spots in the batting order are supposed to be for people who can actually get on base (read: high OBP, not Bengie's ridiculously bad .271) and set the table for the high OPS guys (middle of the order)...Bengie shouldn't hit higher than 6th in a decent lineup...

I'd be ecstatic, but I don't see it happening...there just aren't many impact bats available and if there are, they require blowing up the farm...

We seem to lack in developing position players, but pitching is another story.
This was true up to a few years ago, we'll hopefully start to see the increased benefits of our renewed development of position players in 1-2 years...

i'd like to see
1 Winn
2 Rowand (when he returns)
3 Pablo
4 Schierholtz
5 Uribe
6 Ishi
7 Bengie

Panda would be dope in clean up but he's still young and has a lot to show (which he already did) my point is that no one should be batting clean up for now execpt schierholtz or a veteran bat, which I'm hoping sabean makes a wise decision by the 31st.

only player id be willing to give up some top level prospects for would be Adrian Gonzalez.. He's pretty young and a proven hitter. Not to mention he hits well at ATT
gonzalez will cost burgarmer, posey, AND villanueva,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

gonzalez is an elite power and average guy.........young, and hw is cheap.....his contract calls for something like 4.5M next year and a club option for 2011 at 5.5M

agreed.......in addition to what Rekz just stated..........even if Molina put up Sandoval type numbers.....#2 spot still wouldnt be for him as he would clog up the basepaths.............Molina's ideal spot in the lineup would be 7-8 hole

agreed.......plus SD would risk alienating the fan base if they were to unload Gonzalez..................for them to take that rist it would have to be a deal they cant refuse

Sabean Rules Out A Run At Halladay
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 27, 2009 at 12:20am CST]

Don't expect the Giants to add Roy Halladay to their rotation. GM Brian Sabean "flatly ruled out" a run at the Jays' ace, according to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News. The Giants have Madison Bumgarner, Buster Posey and Tim Alderson, but Sabean wants to keep his trio of top prospects.
"We don't want to deplete our assets when there's another route we need to go," Sabean said.

Instead, he expects Ryan Sadowski and Jonathan Sanchez to perform at a high level while Randy Johnson's on the DL. The Giants hope to add a bat, and Sabean says he has a 50-50 shot at making a deal.

Oddly enough, Halladay is scheduled to be in San Francisco on July 31st since the Jays are playing across the bay against the A's over the weekend. As many have noted, the Phils, who remain leading candidates to add Halladay, are staying in the same hotel as the Jays because they're playing the Giants.

The Giants scouted Nick Johnson and Josh Willingham this weekend.

i think we wait on guzman, when he came up he didnt look ready. ishikawa is much more solid, and could heat up. wait on bowker to see if he can handle it, if not then guzman deserves a chance and send bowker back down.

Josh Willingham would be dope for a fair price, hes got some pop and is hitting over 310 on the road this year compared to just under 270 at home in DC

Ryan Garko wouldnt be a bad choice either.. and i heard the Giants linked to Marco Scutaro too..

Giants fans have heard all about Freddy Sanchez and Nick Johnson in recent weeks, but those are far from the only players the team would consider adding, according to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News. GM Brian Sabean says the team is considering "six to eight scenarios or names," some of which involve players on teams in the fringes of the playoff race.
Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says the Indians have scouted the Giants' system. The Indians have Victor Martinez and Ryan Garko, who could both appeal to the Giants. Aubrey Huff and Marco Scutaro are also options for the Giants, who could add a bat at a number of positions.
