You do realize you are talking to an autistic person right? Just making sure you remember that.

Anyways if they are capable of it, living on SSI or not, it's good for them to get some sort of independence even if it's living with others in a similar position. I'm sure they more than likely are monitored by counselors in some sort of program or might even live in an apartment complex geared towards getting people with disabilities that are capable of living on their own, to an extent, out of their families house. There are a few of those type of places around Seattle.
Tell that to one of my autistic friends. She is a 21 year old female who functions at the level of a 3 year old yet she's totally carefree. That's what's cool about her. Other than that, you must not know what it's like to be blind and autistic like both my roommates are.

No I live with 2 other roommates. One is autistic & partially blind and the other one is completely blind. Imagine how it must feel for my roommate knowing that he will never have another job in his life again because he cannot see at all. That's the shit that he puts up with on a daily basis. He's been dealing with complete blindness for 24 years.

Not to mention my other roommates meltdowns and outbursts. The roommate who is autistic & partially blind can't help himself. I deal with these meltdowns and outbursts on a daily basis! This is the shit I put up with on a daily basis! Unfortunately I can't tell you all anything else due to HIPPA laws. You know how that is. I can't tell you about what goes on during these
meltdowns and outbursts either. So don't come asking me what goes on when this happens. It's fucked up enough that I'm telling you all this!!
Do you find this living situation better than the cage at your parents house?

And your blind buddie can work again, teach him how to play the piano...
