The video just shows what went down. BUt if you read articles that talk about the dead man it's mentioned.
Obviously if dude has a knife cops are going to react but god damn they did not hesitate to shoot. I still remember im Seattle some ten or fifteen years ago or so some mentally disturbed man with a sword in downtown was going nuts. The cops tried to reason with him and eventually threw a net over him lol. Shit worked and no one had to die. No doubt if that happened today he'd be shot on site and the talk would be "well he had a sword what did he ecpect?"instead of opening a discussion on ways police can use non lethal means to handle situations like these.

We are definitely caught in a vicious cycle that is being increasingly exacerbated with positive feedback.
