Game of Thrones set for Alcazar in Seville, Spain
For those viewers that are totally into the Game of Thrones and the amazing historical places filmed around the world to represent the stunning and exotic lands, the next season 5 series will feature the amazing Alcazar in Seville, Spain. Set to represent the famous water gardens of Dorne, the royal residences and gardens of the Alcazar are world renown on their own, but this may also bring a new audience base of admirers that typically don’t get a chance to see these amazing historic sites in person.
The Alcazar was built in 712 as a fortress and then converted into royal residences. The palace was certified as a Unesco World Heritage site in 1987.
Prior to the Alcazar in Seville being chosen, two other palaces were being scouted including the Alhambra of Granada is set high on a plateau over looking Granada with imposing views of the city. And last the Alhambra of Cordoba which is smaller but still grand with its Arabic influences and Mudejar artwork. In the end, the Alcazar in Seville was chosen. The Alcazar has also been used to film historic movies including ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ and the ‘Kingdom of Heaven’. The staging of the Alcazar in Seville for the Game of Thrones will be a truly spectacular attempt to use this World Heritage site and showcase the splendors of this magnificent palace and complex.
