Mayweather Sr: We want Canelo to move a lot, because he gets tired

Mayweather Canelo Mayweather vs. Canelo saul alvarez floyd mayweather jr By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Sr., the trainer and father of unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s), says he’s really hoping that the rumors of WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) planning on using a lot of movement against Mayweather Jr. in their fight on September 14th are true, because he thinks Canelo gets tired when he tries to use a lot of movement in his fights.

Mayweather Sr. said to esnewsreporting.com “We want him [Canelo] to move, because when he moves too much, he gets tired, and when he gets tired, we going to whip his a**! Floyd is smarter, quicker, faster and more knowledgeable than Canelo…Floyd ain’t going to get hit. He’s going to hit you.”

I’m in full agreement with Mayweather Sr. about Canelo getting tired when he tries to move around the ring. I won’t be surprised if he’s foolish enough to try that against Mayweather, because he seems to be the under the impression that he can change his fighting style to box with Mayweather Jr. It won’t be in the best interest for Canelo to try and use movement, because he turns red-faced and gasses out even when he’s fighting in his normal slow, plodding, flat-footed fighting style.

If Canelo tries to change that style by using movement to match what Mayweather Jr. is doing, Canelo is going to gas out, and need to retreat to the ropes for a 2 minute breather like he was doing against Austin Trout last April. The 170+ pound Canelo isn’t built to move around the ring.

Canelo has a short, wrestler type of body that’s not made for any kind of movement. Canelo is built for one thing and one thing only – to slug it out against a stationary opponent. If you put him in the ring and ask him to move, he’s going to gas out after 1 or 2 rounds, and be totally useless.

That’s why he’s going to lose badly to Mayweather Jr. on September 14th, because he won’t be standing there in front of Canelo like the guys that Golden Boy has matched the red-haired Canelo up against during his career.

To fight at a high level you need to have a good cardiovascular system, and Canelo doesn’t have the same system that Mayweather Jr. has. Canelo can do well in this fight, but only if Mayweather Jr. stops in his tracks and fights him without moving around the ring for 12 rounds.

Canelo would then be able to use his 20 pound weight advantage to beat Mayweather. But Mayweather Jr. isn’t going to do that against the light heavyweight sized Canelo. He’s going to force Canelo to move in order to wear him down, and it’s going to work 100 percent

All Access: Matthysse vs. Garcia?
September 3rd, 2013 | Post Comment - 16 Comments

Matthysse Garcia Matthysse vs. Garcia lucas matthysse danny garcia (Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Chester Rivers: How many times can the human ear hear “Hard Work, Dedication” before the ear drums start to bleed? How many times do we have to stomach Oscar De La Hoya whining that he defeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) and knows how to beat him? How many times do we have to watch a segment featuring Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) and think he’s so boring I’d rather hear “Hard Work, Dedication”?

If the execs at Showtime are banking on this series luring the casual boxing fan to pay $70.00 to watch this fight they may be very disappointed on Sept. 15.

All Access is design to give us,the fans, a behinds the scenes look at our favorite fighter as he prepares for his upcoming fight. The series can also be used to introduce the public to boxing’s rising young stars. In 2007, a similar series gave us Floyd Mayweather Jr.and his family.

In July, Golden Boy announced the addition of Lucas Matthysse vs Danny Garcia to “The One” undercard. This fight was instantly touted by boxing enthusiasts as possibly a Fight Of the Year candidate, but what did it mean to the casual boxing fan who don’t have a clue of the identity or accomplishments of either fighter. That’s why this particular fight should have it’s own All Access series. If we had access to these two fighters camps this is probably what we’ll see.

In Matthysse’s camp the star would be his right hand and left hook. The soft spoken hard punching Argentine is best described as a heartless unsympathetic knock out artist. No one in the 140 pound division is calling out his name. Matthysse has 32 victories all coming by way of knock out. In his two loses to Devon Alexander and Zab Judah, Lucas managed to knock both fighters down but could not finish them. He is already being compared to Manny Pacquiao and Mike Tyson.

In Garcia’s camp the star of the show would definitely be his loud mouth trainer/father Angel Garcia. His raspy voice would keep the audience both entertained and annoyed by making some off the wall predictions and insulting every boxing personality in the sport. His behavior is 180 degrees different from his son. Danny is a fighter who is just good enough to remain undefeated. Every time it seems as though he ‘s going to lose, he finds a way and will to win. To his credit he’s knocked out Mexican great Erik Morales and Amir Khan. He also boasts a 12 round decision over Zab Judah in which Judah was on the canvas in several rounds.

Note to Golden Boy Promotions: Stop building up your young talent for Mayweather to knock down! Invest in the future and build up that talent for the longevity of your company and the sport. There’s no better place to start than the winner of Matthysse vs. Garcia.

Rios is moving up to 147 for the first time and after a lost. The only reason Rios beat guys was because of his size now he is fighting guys his own size and you will see how Buskilled this guy truly is. He is small and a loser no way in hell Manny should be fighting these guy.

He isn't small though, he's a big guy fighting small guys. He weighed 161 pounds against
Alvarado in his last fight (who weighed 158 himself ).

I have no problem with it since Pac just got KTFO. This is a measuring stick to see where Pac is at. If he doesn't absolutely destroy Rios he should hang em up, walk away for good.

Garcia: Maidana's Style Can Give Broner Problems

By Salvador Rodriguez

Trainer Robert Garcia likes Marcos Maidana's chances to derail undefeated WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 24KOs). Maidana (34-3, 31KOs) is potentially going to face Broner on November 9th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Maidana, one of the hardest punchers in boxing, has been at welterweight for his last four fights. Broner moved up by two divisions, from 135 to 147, in June when he displayed some struggles in winning a twelve round split decision over Paulie Maliganggi to win the WBA belt.

"Broner is in his moment. He is young and talented, but he is not another Mayweather. However much that we think that he is, he is not [Mayweather]. Maidana's style can give him a lot of problems. We'll prepare for a war. Maidana punches hard, has heart and won't show any respect - and these things are very important against an opponent [like Broner]. He has the qualities [to beat Broner]," Garcia said.

Kessler wants third fight with Froch, willing to fight in London

Froch Kessler Froch vs. Kessler mikkel kessler carl froch By Scott Gilfoid: Not only is Denmark’s Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35 KO’s) willing to fight IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) in a 3rd fight, but he also says he’s willing to fight Froch in the UK in London again. Kessler doesn’t care that he might be in a situation where he could need a knockout to win, he still wants to face Froch a third time.

Kessler said to Sky Sports Ringside “I would a third one…I would go back to London. I don’t care. Maybe not a neutral place because wouldn’t recognize us or know about boxing, and would have to travel. So I think we have to do it in London or Copenhagen.”

Man, Kessler already bending over backwards to get the third fight with Froch. That’s a lousy way of starting the negotiation process. I can just see Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn getting this news, and then getting the upper hand in the negotiations. Kessler has got to be a little tougher this this, because he’s coming across as almost desperate.

Someone needs to teach Kessler how to negotiate. The way he should be with Froch and Hearn is to give a choice of Copenhagen or Germany in take it leave it manner. He also needs to ask for a bigger cut of the financial pie this time, because Froch had never had a fight do as well as his last one with Kessler. That tells me that Kessler was the main ingredient to making that happen.

If I’m Kessler’s promoter, I’m asking for 55-45 in the negotiations and nothing less. If Froch and Hearn don’t want to say yes to that, then let them fight Andre Ward. Froch doesn’t have a lot of options for big fights other than Kessler. Froch blew it by not fighting Nathan Cleverly before he got spanked. Now it’s too late. Froch’s November 23rd fight against George Groves probably won’t do that well, because Groves isn’t a star.

As far as the fight goes, Kessler can definitely beat Froch in a rematch, but he might need a new trainer to light a fire under his backside. Kessler looked half asleep in the ring last May against Froch. It was like Kessler wasn’t into the fight. If that’s how it’s going to be, then Kessler needs to spare the boxing fans by saying no to the third fight.

That was a terrible performance from Kessler in a fight that he should have won. Froch would have been beaten by a lot of super middleweights on that night, and it makes me wonder whether Kessler is shot or has lost his desire to fight. Either way, both Froch and Kessler looked like two fighters past it in that fight. I think Froch’s age is starting to show it’s negative effects, and it’s not pretty to see.

I’m not sure that Hearn will be able to sell a third fight between Froch and Kessler if Froch gets spanked by Groves in November. I mean, who want to see Froch fight Kessler a third time if Froch gets whipped by Groves? Can you imagine Hearn trying to sell the Froch-Kessler III fight for 15 pounds to the British public? It would be like trying to sell 1 month old moldy bread on the market.

I think Froch should have told Hearn no to the idea of fighting Groves. I know it’s a good move on Hearn’s part in matching Groves against Froch, because Groves is young, and it’ll be good for his career to be seen beating an old lion like Froch. Hearn would then have a much more popular and much younger Groves in his stable to fight for many years to come. Froch should have taken a tune-up while he waited for Kessler to get off the pot and make a decision about his career

Mayweather Ranks 3rd All Time On Boxnation Poll

BoxNation's subscribers have given Floyd Mayweather a ringing endorsement ahead of his September 14th showdown with Saul Alvarez by voting him into a list of the greatest boxers of all time. Mayweather meets his Mexican rival at the MGM Grand in a WBC and WBA unification contest that has clearly captured the popular imagination of British boxing fans.

The poll was conducted online earlier this month and is topped by Muhammad Ali, with Sugar Ray Robinson a close second followed by Mayweather, who is the only active champion in the top ten.

The meeting with Alvarez, 42-0-1 (30), should help cement Mayweather's legacy, assuming of course that the 44-0 (26) Las Vegas-based boxer prevails against his younger rival.

BoxNation General Manager Jim McMunn believes the outcome of the poll proves that the mercurial 36-year-old will pull in the punters when he takes on the 23-year-old WBA titlist, who is known as "Canelo". “This is an indication of how highly rated Floyd Mayweather is by the fans, he is a living legend," said McMunn.

“However there are many who believe Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will one day join Floyd on the elite list. The 14th September could be Mayweather’s biggest challenge to date and we are thrilled to be bringing you this massive event on BoxNation. Boxing just doesn't get any bigger than this.”

Mayweather edged out Sugar Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson and Roberto Duran, amongst others, to take up his top three spot and underlined his status as the biggest boxing star on the planet, but he will have his hands full come the 14th as Alvarez bids to get his own legacy underway.

The full results are as follows:

1. Muhammad Ali
2. Sugar Ray Robinson
3. Floyd Mayweather Jnr
4. Sugar Ray Leonard
5. Rocky Marciano
6. Mike Tyson
7. Joe Louis
8. Roy Jones Jnr
9. Roberto Duran
10. Joe Calzaghe
BoxNation is also showing every episode of All Access: Mayweather Vs Alvarez, Showtime’s pre-fight preview shows. The first episode went out on Monday night and Episode Two premieres on Monday, September 2 at 8pm. Episode Three will be broadcast on Monday 9 September at 8pm. He is one of the greatest, no question. Most certainly not top three let alone top ten, his resume is just too thin for that.

Respectable historian's will have him between #20-40 (along with Hopkins, Pacquiao and Jones). Mike Tyson to be honest probably isn't even in the top 100 because at the end of the day, who the hell did Tyson beat?

When people say "all time great" usually that refers to the top 100 boxers off all time (remember this goes over 100 years!). Floyd is an ATG, no question. Amazing fighter. There just is no argument for top ten (as of today).

Well like I said I dont care about Tyson but to me Floyd is a top 5 fighter. I go by resume and skill level. I think he is the most skilled fighter I have ever seen and that says a lot. Not to mention he has never lost while fighting some very good competition. This is all opinions and we all have them but thats how I feel about the man. Got Em!!

I dont think your history goes deep enough to understand top five. If we go by skill only Pernell Whitaker wins that, but of course the all important resume factors in. Boxing is about who you beat and who you fight, otherwise undefeated fighters like Sven Ottke and Calzaghe would be the greatest ever.

Just look at welterweight, this is the pretty much universal top ten all time great rankings (just at welterweight, mimd you):

Sugar Ray Robinson
Henry Armstrong
Sugar Ray Leonard
Joe Walcott
Kid Gavilan
Jose Napoles
Emile Griffith
Barney Ross
Jack Britton
Jimmy McLarnin
And that doesn't even include Pernell Whitaker, Tommy Hearns, Trinidad, Carmen Basilio and others.

Floyd has never unified a division. His bests wins are Diego Corrales and Castillo (one of the two he nearly lost). After that lots of good and ok wins nothing great. Hatton, Oscar, Guerrero, Cotto, Mosley....good, solid wins. They dont compare to the top ten guys. FLoyd has no real AMAZING victory on his resume. Purely awesome, dominant performances, absolutely! But unfortunately he doesn't have that A+ hall of fame, all time great in their prime opponent on his resume.

Dude I could care less about Calzaghe. Compare his resume to Floyd's first off. 2ndly u dont get credit for going undefeated and beating nobodies and retiring hella early. Floyd has been undefeated for what 17 years as a pro and still going strong at 36. Calzaghe doesnt compare so thats a pointless argument. Floyd has beaten top competition day in and day out while lasting undefeated for a very long time. he is easily the most skilled fighter I have ever seen. Pernell is great but Floyd is better. We can disagree on this but thats my take and thoughts. Got Em!!
