Arreola: I’m going to embarrass Seth Mitchell
September 5th, 2013 | Post Comment - 38 Comments

Arreola Mitchell Arreola vs. Mitchell seth mitchell chris arreola (Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Allan Fox: Chris Arreola (35-3, 30 KO’s) wants to beat Seth Mitchell (26-1-1, 19 KO’s) bad enough to embarrass him this Saturday night in their fight at the Fantasy Springs Casino, in Indio, California, USA. Arreola is so confident that he’s going to beat Mitchell that he’s saying he might retire if he loses to him.

Arreola sees the fight as a mismatch, and it bothers him that he’s fighting a guy has once was a football player. Arreola doesn’t like that Mitchell switched sports in his 20s from football to boxing, because Arreola has been boxing most of his life, and he doesn’t think it’s possible for guys to step into boxing from another sport and succeed.

Arreola said “I’m going to make a statement and make sure that everyone remembers my fight. I’m going to embarrass this kid, Seth.”

There are a lot of ex-football players that have turned to boxing and done well. Just because they played another sport doesn’t mean that they can’t pick up the sport quickly if they’re smart, and athletic. Arreola shouldn’t get too overconfident about this fight because Mitchell has the power and the boxing skills to give Arreola a lot of problems if he gets too cocky.

Arreola is coming off of a bad beating to Bermane Stiverne in his last fight. Arreola was shattered by Stiverne. Mitchell doesn’t hit quite as hard as Stiverne, but he’s close to being as strong. Stiverne was able to outbox Arreola by keeping him on the outside, using his jab and hitting him with hard right hands each time he would attempt to get in punching range.

As the fight wore on, Arreola got tired, and lost a lot of the power on his shots. Arreola ended up being a punching bag for Stiverne in the half of the fight.

Mitchell’s chances of winning this fight aren’t good though, as he’s been hurt in his last two fights, and he seems to be vulnerable to big shots. Arreola punches harder than Mitchell’s last opponent Johnathon Banks, and Mitchell had problems taking Banks power shots.

De La Hoya: Canelo will have no problems making weight
September 5th, 2013 | Post Comment - 78 Comments

Mayweather Canelo Mayweather vs. Canelo saul alvarez floyd mayweather jr By Dan Ambrose: Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions sees WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) as having no problems making the 152 lbs. catch-weight for his clash in 9 days against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s).

De La Hoya feels Canelo will make the weight despite the fact that he weighed in at nearly 170 lbs. in the 30-day weigh-in 2 weeks ago, and looked like he had to drain down to get to that weight. If Canelo doesn’t make the 152 lb. catch-weight he’ll be hit with what will likely be a sizable weight-penalty.

There’s no word whether De La Hoya or Golden Boy will personally pay Canelo’s weight penalty if he misses the weight and comes in at 154 lbs. As much as Canelo weighed in his last fight, it’s hard to imagine that he’ll be able to make the 152 lb. catch-weight. He’s struggling badly just to make 154, and now he’s being asked to get down 2 pounds lighter.

De La Hoya said “There is a [weight] penalty but, obviously, Canelo is going to have no problem making the weight whatsoever. He made 153 against Austin Trout with no problems, so Canelo is going to have no problem whatsoever.”

Canelo already failed to make a catch-weight in his fight against welterweight Matthew Hatton in 2011, when they fought for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title. Golden Boy skillfully selected Hatton to fight Canelo instead of junior middleweights Erislandy Lara or Vanes Martirosyan. The catch-weight was set for 150 lbs., and Canelo came in at 151.8 lbs. He missed it by almost 2 pounds.

I think there should be some concern about the catch-weight, because of Canelo’s past failure to make the weight.

It wasn’t easy for Canelo to get down to 153 lbs. He drained down from 172 lbs. to get to that weight, and he looked terrible. That was 19 pounds of water weight that Canelo took off in less than a week, and then put back on 1 day later.

That may help explain why Canelo was already gassed out after 3 rounds, and unable to fight hard for more than 45 seconds of every round without needing rest breaks against the ropes.

AMIR KHAN EYES HANK LUNDY AS CHIEF SPARRING PARTNER FOR DEVON ALEXANDER CLASH
By Ben Thompson | September 05, 2013

Sources close to the information have informed us that the team of former jr. welterweight champion Amir Khan has reached out to jr. welterweight contender Hank Lundy and expressed interest in bringing him into camp as the chief sparring partner for the anticipated December 7 showdown with IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander. Although the fight has yet to be finalized, word is that Khan will be heading to California in roughly 2 weeks to begin working with head trainer Virgil Hunter. As such, the search for suitable sparring partners has begun.

The decision to use Lundy is interesting considering that he's an orthodox fighter whereas Alexander is southpaw. That being said, Lundy is fully capable of switching stances and fighting extremely well as a southpaw, which he did in his last bout when he thoroughly dominated Olusegun Ajose over the course of 10 rounds. Whether or not Lundy is officially brought in for Khan's camp remains to be seen, however, the fact that he was contacted is an excellent sign that the December 7 clash between Alexander and Khan will soon be signed, sealed, and eventually delivered to fight fans hoping to get an early Christmas gift.

How much over can canelo weigh in at and still be able to fight? Can he just come in at 170 take the pay cut and beat the shit out of mayweather or does he have to get down to a certain weight or the fight will be called off?

Anything over the agreed upon weight and Floyd would have the option to not proceed with the fight. That rarely happens but it has (think Joan Guzman vs Nate Campbell, Castillo vs Diego Corrales III).

I don't think any of us know what the penalty is. I read Canelo will make $12.5 million. For a million bucks he should come in two pounds heavy, the full 154, like Floyd did against Marquez (which was $600,000 for Floyd).

I've been saying that but people think it sounds crazy. Canelo will make weight, but i wouldn't be surprised if he says fuck it and comes in at 154.I think cuz it's a catchweight there is no rehydration limit from what I seen on a spansh channel, but I even think Canelo will rehydrate at 167! Since this is a Mayweather fight they might not show his rehydration weight or say something like it's unofficial, but I think canelo is in very great shape and is fighting to KO him

well on the All Access ep3 the catchweight issue drew a lot of attention again so who since it's a mental game for Floyd and canelo doesn't give a fuck and goes in at 153 let's say, they will say the same excuse Floyd used on the Marquez fight and say it's still in the weight class

No he wouldn't because $41.5 million payday is on the line plus massive pressure from everyone involve. Canelo iisn't a dick though he'll make weight. Plus who knows what the agreed upon fine is...could be $5 million per pound for all we know.
I don't think he would either, but then again, I don't understand Floyd. He turned down the biggest payday ever essentially by not fighting Manny regardless of who you blame in that situation so where's the logic there? Floyd never mentioned PED's until the pressure from fighting Pac came along. I wouldn't be surprised AT ALL if Floyd balked at that money. Think, if he loses via ko, what's his next guaranteed purse gonna look like? Better to take 41.5 mill this time, then like 34 on the next than 41.5 this time and 20 the next

How can Mayweather turn down the Manny fight when it was Manny that walked away from the fight two times. But I will let the Manny fans live in Lala land a place where random drug testing is a bad thing, even thou random testing is the standard for championship fights in boxing now. But keep on acting like Manny didn't duck random testing and Mayweather. You got to love Mayweather hater you guys want him to lost so bad you don't care if the guy is on PED or is 20lbs heavier you just want Mayweather to lose.

By placing ridiculous commands/demands to make the contract. Come on man, you're smarter than that.

And you clearly didn't read the other stuff I said. I'm not for or against either guy. But in your typical faggot argumentative style, I MUST HATE Mayweather for suggesting he didn't take the fight!!!???? Right??????????

BRONER VS. MAIDANA SET FOR DECEMBER 14 PAY-PER-VIEW SHOWDOWN?
By Ben Thompson | September 09, 2013

Sources close to the information have informed us that a deal has been reached in principle for a December 14 pay-per-view showdown between WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner and former jr. welterweight champion Marcos Maidana. Although contracts have yet to be signed, we're told that both fighters have agreed to all terms. According to our source, Broner has already begun light workouts in preparation for the bout.

Though details have yet to be finalized, there's a strong possibility that undefeated welterweight contender Keith Thurman, as well as former welterweight champion Victor Ortiz, may also be fighting on the card. Be sure to check back soon as more details become available.

OSCAR DE LA HOYA:

WORLD EXCLUSIVE SHOCKER: Floyd Mayweather Gets 'KNOCKED DOWN' In Sparring . . . For The First Time In His CAREER!!!

ining camp - with MULTIPLE WOMEN around - all vying for his attention. And all those women might have caused the GREATEST FIGHTER IN MODERN TIMES to lose his focus.

According to an EXTREMELY WELL PLACED SOURCE, Floyd Mayweather was "knocked down" during sparring on Thursday. Our snitch, who spoke on the condition of anonymity told us, "Mayeather got hit with a good shot, a left hook to the body, and he went down."

The insider added, "To my knowledge [Money] has never gone down ever. Not in sparring, or in the ring."

But the insider also added, "It's not unusual for a boxer to get hit hard in training and go down. And Floyd responded well - he got up and finished the session. And he beat [the boxer he was fighting] to a bloody pulp."

That Mayweather fight next week is gonna be OFF THE CHAINS. Y'all better hurry up and get your pay-per-view ready - this fight is DEFINITELY WORTH BUYING. Cause with all the MESS going on in Mayweather's camp, he might actually take HIS FIRST LOSS!
