Giants signed RHP Todd Wellemeyer to a minor league contract.
Wellemeyer will be present at Giants camp this spring on a non-roster invitation. The 31-year-old righty had a miserable 5.89 ERA, 1.77 ERA and 78/57 K/BB ratio in 122 1/3 innings for the Cardinals last season, but he's telling media outlets that he is in great physical shape and he has a decent shot at cracking the Giants' Opening Day roster as a long reliever. If Wellemeyer does make the squad, he will earn a salary over $1 million.

Giants Offer Three-Year Deal To Lincecum

By Tim Dierkes [February 11 at 8:23am CST]

The Giants offered a three-year, $37MM deal to Tim Lincecum, reports John Shea and Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. Specifically it'd pay $9.5MM in '10, $12.5MM in '11, and $15MM in '12, buying out three of Lincecum's four arbitration years. Shea says Lincecum's agent Rick Thurman "countered with a proposal north of $40 million." Plus, Thurman wants the first-year salary within a multiyear deal to be close to the $13MM figure they submitted. You have to imagine he'd at least want to top Ryan Howard's first-year arbitration figure of $10MM.

Giants assistant GM Bobby Evans told Shea talks are ongoing, though the sides have not spoken in 72 hours. Shea says "such a lapse in negotiations isn't unusual." If no deal is reached prior, a hearing will be held tomorrow where Lincecum's 2010 salary will be decided at $8MM or $13MM by a three-person panel.

As you know, there's no comparable for Lincecum whether we're talking about his first arbitration year or a multiyear deal. Felix Hernandez and Justin Verlander are not Super Two players and signed extensions after their first arbitration years. But both received about $20-23MM for their first three arbitration years.

Wellermeyer isn't a horrible signing, but it's not great either... Could potentially be another low risk/high reward deal like Huff tho, we could be suprised. I'd still like to see MadBum in the 5th spot tho

On a side note, I think Sabean might be trying to set the record for the most random mediocre free agent signings in a single off season this year

Lincecum agrees to 2-year contract

Tim Lincecum and the San Francisco Giants have settled their arbitration case, with the two-time reigning NL Cy Young winner agreeing to a $23 million, two-year contract ahead of Friday's originally scheduled hearing.

Lincecum had been set to ask for an arbitration-record $13 million salary for 2010 during a hearing Friday in St. Petersburg, Fla. Lincecum's contract, which also includes performance bonuses, is subject to him passing a physical. He made $650,000 last season.

The 25-year-old right-hander said last week he thought the Giants might bring up his offseason marijuana arrest in Washington state during a hearing, but insisted there would be no hard feelings.

Lincecum was 15-7 last season with a 2.48 ERA. He's 40-17 in his three major league seasons with a 2.90 career ERA.

God damn, finally.

I would hate to see the Giants bad-mouth our Franchise at a hearing. That might have caused some resentment and/or anger from Timmy
