Oxycontin is a name brand drug. the actual drug is oxycodone. It is an opiate just like heroin. Just not as strong. It is in the same category as hydrocodone (lortab), Morphine (MS contin), Codeine.. Oxycontin is the same drug as percocet except Oxycontin is an extended release drug and comes in higher doses, and percocet has tylenol (APAP) in it. Oxycontin is stronger than the previous mentioned drugs as well. It is prescribed for chronic pain and is very addictive if abused. the withdraw symptoms are the same as a heroin addicts would be. the severity of the withdraw all depends on the level of addiction.
