And how is that Seattle plays in Pittsburgh once again? Pittsburgh hasn't played in Seattle since 2003(the only Seahawks game that I attended)

Seahawks sign Leon Washington to a multi-year deal. Hell yeah, Seahawks are set at RB with him, Marshawn Lynch, and Justin Forsett. Also set at returners with him, too.

Seahawks home could be getting a new name

Qwest Field may not be what you think it is much longer.

The home of the Seattle Seahawks could be getting a new name.

That’s because Qwest and CenturyLink, telecommunication firms, had a merger approved by the FCC on Friday, a deal that will be finalized next month. The question is will the stadium soon become CenturyLink Field?

“Each Qwest-named venue will be evaluated to determine the appropriate re-branding implementation," CenturyLink spokesman Tony Timmons told Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times.

At least one change is already in the works. Qwest Center Omaha will be renamed after CenturyLink, according to the Omaha World-Herald.

The naming rights deal the Seahawks currently have with Qwest runs through 2014. So that means another name change might not be far off.

Olindo Mare offers Seahawks a hometown discount

NFL owners are seeking a $1 billion giveback from players in a labor showdown that’s gotten downright ugly.

Olindo Mare(notes) can’t give that much back, but he is willing to give the Seattle Seahawks a hometown discount to re-sign with them. The veteran kicker told 710 ESPN that he’d like to remain with the club.

Mare, 37, made 25 of 30 field goals last season and had a streak of 30 consecutive (dating back to 2009) snapped in October. He is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent after the team placed the franchise tag on him last year.

“I think that whole highest bid thing for me is not quite as important with the four kids," Mare said.

So he’d give the Seahawks a little discount?

"Oh, absolutely. For sure. I would be stupid not to," he told the radio station. "The Seahawks gave me an opportunity. I always take that into consideration also. But we'll see. I have to get a offer first… What would be great would be is if there was a bunch and it would show that people appreciate what you do, and that's always flattering. Just to get all your options available. If you signed (for) three, four, five years, that would be your last contract. You want to make sure that everything was done right.

"But yeah, Seattle will definitely get a home discount.”

The Seahawks looked to the future with youth when they drafted Brandon Coutu(notes) in 2008 but in two seasons he was unable to unseat Mare. Now, it would seem the Seahawks would be best to bring Mare back on a short-term deal.

Breaking down the 2011 schedule

The 2011 schedule has been released. Check out some news, notes and tidbits from the Seahawks’ 16-game slate:

» The Seahawks start the season with two straight road games — at San Francisco and at Pittsburgh — before returning to Qwest Field for the home opener on Sept. 25 against Arizona.

» Four of Seattle’s first six games are on the road. Four of its last six are at home.

» The Seahawks play three straight home games in the second half of the season, a homestand that includes primetime games on a Thursday night (against Philadelphia on Dec. 1) and a Monday night (against St. Louis on Dec. 12).

» The primetime contest against the Rams will be Seattle’s first Monday Night Football appearance in more than four years, a 24-0 win over San Francisco on Nov. 12, 2007.

» With just two home games in the first seven weeks of the season, Seattle doesn’t play its third contest at Qwest until Oct. 30 against Cincinnati.

» Road games against Pittsburgh, New York Giants and Cleveland in the first half of the season mean the Seahawks are in line to play just one game in potentially cold-weather conditions — at Chicago on Dec. 18 in a rematch of January’s snow-covered playoff game. Besides the Bears game, the San Francisco season opener and the three early-season East Coast trips, Seattle’s three other contests are all in domed stadiums (Dallas, St. Louis and Arizona), all of which happen to land in the latter portion of the schedule.

» After playing all 16 games on Sunday in 2010, the Seahawks will play three non-Sunday games this fall — a Thursday nighter against Philadelphia, a Monday nighter against St. Louis and a Saturday day game against San Francisco on Christmas Eve.

» The Seahawks’ bye falls during Week 6, though they’ll have a pseudo-bye later in the season with 11 days between the Thursday game against the Eagles and the Monday game against the Rams.

» In 2010, the Seahawks opened and closed the season at home against divisional opponents. In 2011, they’ll open and close the season on the road against divisional opponents.

» Place a deposit for season tickets here.

» Individual tickets for all home games will go on sale this summer. Sign up for email alerts here.

Seahawks' restraint on Brandon Marshall

The Seattle Seahawks tried to acquire receiver Brandon Marshall from the Denver Broncos last offseason.

The price wound up being higher than expected, and the Seahawks wisely showed restraint. The latest off-field drama surrounding Marshall -- his recent stabbing, allegedly by his wife -- validates Seattle's decision to bow out of the running.

Signing Marshall to an offer sheet and acquiring him that way would have required parting with the sixth choice in the 2010 draft, a price far too high given the risks associated with Marshall. Matching the price ultimately paid by the Miami Dolphins also would have carried long-term negative ramifications for Seattle.

The initial sting associated with losing Marshall to the Dolphins went away more quickly than anticipated.

Mike Williams emerged as a far less expensive, lower-risk alternative. He did not produce as much as Marshall produced in 2010, but his best games lined up favorably with Marshall's best games. Both are big, physically dominant receivers at their best.
