Clottey fought his way out a few times. Those rounds when he had Clottey in the corner (and the knockdown round) were the only rounds Cotto won. Clottey was robbed plus a point should have been taken from Cotto for fighting dirty. Every fight he does something dirty... he did that shit to Judah too.

I scored in Clottey's favor by two points. Who landed more blows and the more "effective" blows? Who landad a higher percentage? Most of Cotto's shots were blocked. Plus Clottey brought the fight to Cotto. HBO loves to build up their fighters, that decision was bullshit. One judge scored it right.

Clottey won that fight, but in a close fight, they will always give it to who they consider the more bankable fighter (Cotto). That's the politics of boxing and fighting in his backyard. That 116-111 was a disgusting display of unfairly judging a fight. Clottey got off the floor and rallied to win this fight, similar to how Timothy Bradley won his last fight, but in this case, HBO really wants to see a Cotto/Pacquiao or Cotto/Mayweather fight. Cotto was clearly the dirty fighter of the night. Even when he got cut, he was leading with his head and caused the cut. In his heart he knows he lost. He's a warrior, not one of the biased fans on the sideline who will never admit to defeat. He'll take the win, but will have nightmares of this fight for weeks to come. To anybody who wants to argue about this fight, go argue with the stats and keep it real with your selves.

Cotto needed the last round bad. I think that sealed it for him but the judges scoring was on some BS.... imma have to watch the fight again to form some more opinion.

My favorite highlight of the fight was in Cotto slammed that 170 pound beast to the floor.

By Abac Cordero Updated June 15, 2009 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - Bob Arum is taking the first step leading to a Manny Pacquiao-Miguel Cotto showdown.

“We’re going to have to talk to the Cotto people,” the Top Rank big boss told *********.com Saturday after watching Cotto, the pride of Puerto Rico, keep his WBO welterweight crown with a split decision over Ghana’s Josh Clottey at the Madison Square Garden in New York.

Pacquiao watched from ringside, flanked by his wife Jinkee and Arum. The pound-for-pound champion watched with interest, and was up on his feet late in the fifth round as Clottey lay on the floor after being wrestled down by Cotto, who was behind midway through the fight.

Pacquiao and his trainer, Freddie Roach, wanted to see the fight and somehow made an early assessment on how they’d stand against the bigger Cotto if indeed they land a fight in October. In case both fighters ask for a little more time, the fight can be pushed to November.

“He has a lot of options. I would like for him to fight Manny Pacquiao. That would be a tremendous fight and I hope we can get it done for November,” said Arum.

“He (Cotto) and Pacquiao is a dead-even fight,” Arum was also quoted by the Associated Press as saying.

Cotto, who has never fought lower than 145 lb in his last eight fights, losing only once to Antonio Margarito, showed very little head and body movement, and despite his edge in size may have great difficulty coping with Pacquiao’s amazing speed.

After the fight, however, Cotto refused to call out Pacquiao’s name, saying all he wants for now is to take a vacation. But he had previously announced that he can’t go lower than 145 lb.

Pacquiao said he’s ready to fight anybody, and that includes Cotto, Shane Mosley, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Juan Manuel Marquez or Edwin Valero. If it’s anyone among the first three, Roach said a catch weight of under 147 lb is what they’d ask for.

Cotto, 28 and 5-foot-7, and Pacquiao, 30 and a shade lower in height, are both under Top Rank.

Mosley, who’s under Golden Boy, is practically begging for the fight with Pacquiao, saying he’s willing to stake his WBA welterweight crown, fight at a catch weight lower than 147 lb and take a 40 percent share of the purse. However, there’s no movement yet regarding a Mosley-Pacquiao showdown.

“This was a great fight, and under ordinary circumstances Clottey deserves a rematch. But we have economics. It’s just not going to happen next,” said Arum after Clottey said he felt he won the fight and therefore deserves an immediate rematch.

“Floyd has a fight coming up with Marquez. Then he’ll probably want to fight (Ivan) Calderon. Floyd just doesn’t fight big guys. Let’s be honest, he doesn’t fight big guys,” said the ageless promoter who had a bitter falling out with Mayweather Jr. some years back.

Arum also called the undefeated ex-pound-for-pound champion “delusional” after he declared that he’d fight Pacquiao only if he gets the lion’s share of the purse, like 60/40.

also, it's worth pointing out that Cotto could have pulled a Robert Guerrero and said fuck it I cant see due to the cut and either got a No Contest or if he waited till after round 4 it would have gone to the score cards and he would have won the fight. The cut clearly fucked him up he couldnt see the right hands coming.

I had Clottey winning a close decision. That 115-111 score was ridiculous. Clottey never seems to catch any breaks. Clottey landed much harder cleaner shots, and absorbed most of Cotto's shots with his gloves/arms.

I wouldn't call it a robbery by any means, but it was definitely a gift decision for Cotto, IMO.

^^^wouldn't call it a gift since you got quite a few people in this thread saying cotto won. Also, on message boards I've been too I seen one poll it was 150+ picked they thought cotto won and around 90 for clottey.

So close, yes, but I wouldn't call it a gift.

That's true... the cut did have an affect on the fight. I mean he was wiping blood from his eye constantly througout the fight. He was leading on the cards (due to the early knockdown) as well when the cut happened so he still could have won for just being ahead on the cards but I still don't think he won that fight because as the fight went on Clottey dominated (except for when Cotto had him on the ropes)

Agreed 100%! Cotto won the fight because he finished with that cut over his eye, the early knockdown, and the flurries on the ropes. But you have to score a fight round by round and Clottey was ahead. Cotto started running like he did when Sugar Shane was coming for him...

T-Rip, how could Clottey land punches when he's literally chasing Cotto down? That's how De La Hoya lost to Trinidad (running in the championship rounds). Some judges awards the round to the aggressor when the other fighters keeps running and doesn't stand and fight.

If he's running (boxing) and throwing and landing punches in spurts while avoiding punches from clottey, how do you not score that round for Cotto? You cant say, "oh he was running so that's why clottey didn't land any punches so I'll score that for Clottey even though he didn't land anything." lol. Oscar didn't really land shit on tito when he was on his bike which is why he lost imo.

The object of the game is to hit and not be hit. There is a difference between blatant running and moving around and boxing. How smart would it be for Cotto to sit in the middle of the ring and bang with Clottey in the 12th round??
