I'll never forgive McClueless, Nolan and the rest of the retards from the last regime that decided to pick Alex over Aaron. What did Aaron have to say after winning the NFC championship game?

“This is what I dreamed about as a kid in Northern California, watching Joe Montana and then Steve Young after Joe moved on."

The man grew up a 49er fan and wanted to be a 49er, but those fucking idiots ruined EVERYTHING!! FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
too late for all that! he's a green bay packer now so fuck him!

The thing is...even if we drafted Aaron Rodgers...if he had to walk the same path that Alex Smith did, I'm not so sure he'd be the elite QB he is today.

7 different coordinators...no mentor (sitting behind Brett Favre for 2 years was a gift from the Foozball Gods)...shitty coaching...etc.

Basically, Aaron Rodgers was groomed and prepped perfectly...in addition to his natural talent. I would love to have him now, but I'm sure the 49ers incompetent coaching/leadership at the time would have found a way to fuck his future off.

I won't be surprised to see Alex Smith do much better on another team.

Bobby Engram, a veteran NFL wide receiver well-versed in the West Coast Offense, was hired by the 49ers today as an offensive assistant coach.

Engram, 38, finished his 14-season career when he was cut on Sept. 4 by the Cleveland Browns. CSN Bay Area reported that Engram will work primarily with the wide receivers.

Engram spent eight seasons with the Seahawks (2001-08) and played in the West Coast Offense, a system the Niners will implement this season. At 34, Engram set career-highs in receptions (94) and yards (1,147) in 2007 while catching passes from quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, who will be a free agent. San Francisco would be a logical potential landing spot for Hasselbeck if he doesn’t re-sign with Seattle.

Engram will presumably work alongside wide receivers coach John Morton to help develop a young receivers corps headlined by Michael Crabtree, 23, and Josh Morgan, 25. Crabtree (55 catches, 741 yards, 6 TDs) and Morgan (44, 698, 2) ranked 51st and 87th, respectively, in the NFL in receptions this past season.

The Niners are the only NFL team to not have a wide receiver collect 900 yards in a season since 2003. In addition, a San Francisco wideout hasn’t ranked higher than 37th in the league in receptions or yardage in the past seven seasons.

Engram’s hiring will add another layer to the NFC West rivalry between the 49ers and the Seahawks. Seattle assistant coach Jeff Ulbrich spent his 10-year NFL career in San Francisco and the Seahawks have picked up several Niners – running back Michael Robinson and defensive tackle Kentwan Balmer among them – since former general manager Scot McLoughan landed in Seattle’s front office.

Niners coach Jim Harbaugh and Seahawks coach Pete Carroll were also Pac-10 rivals from 2007-2009.

Engram, a three-time All-American and the 1994 Biletnikoff Award winner at Penn State, is tied for 42nd in NFL history in receptions (650) and ranks 88th in yards (7,751).

If Rodgers was a 9er Nolan could still be the head coach, lol. We wouldn't have had 7 different coordinators. It goes the other way too, good QBs make head coaches look good too.

yea right! Rodgers isnt that good to single handlely turn around a franchise. Dont forget all the talent he has surrounding him in Green Bay. By now his contract would of been up and we would most like have a similar record. He would of already left us for a winning team and a bigger contract. Also Alex never shitted on our team when shit hit the fan. Last year Green Bay hit a slump and that faggot Rodgers was quick to start pointing fingers at his offense line. Imagine how much his cry baby ass would be crying with all the shit going on in SF.

NO quarterback.. i guarantee this.. would have done good with us thru these years consistently day in and day out.. lack of consistency at Offensive Coordinator is to blame.. picture this.. at your job you get a new boss every year, you're trying to get a promotion but you cant because each boss tells you to do things differently each time, thus placing you further from your promotion.

See though, Alex was the starter in his rookie year...we don't know if Rodgers was the Sam Bradford type who could be effective immediately. I guess it depends, but McCarthy who is Rodgers coach now was our OC in 2005.

I dunno.

I heard a radio interview that Coach Harbaugh did and he likes Alex Smith, and thinks he's an accurate passer who could be successful in the NFL. I don't disagree with him. Alex was put in a shitty situation from the beginning, with high expectations.

“So excited, yeah, I’m going to say it, I’ve been studying Alex Smith and watching him and I believe that Alex Smith can be a winning quarterback in the National Football League,” Harbaugh said. “I’m excited to work with him, get to know him.”

What are some of the qualities Harbaugh saw in Smith?

“Very accurate passer,” he said. “Very athletic. And a guy that has played and been durable.”

Harbaugh went on to say that he’s talked with Smith and other players about having a “clean slate” with the new coaching staff. And he also acknowledged that Smith might choose to get a completely fresh start with a new franchise after six turbulent seasons in San Francisco.

“Ultimately, he has to make a decision because he’s an unrestricted free agent right now,” Harbaugh said. “And what is his vision for himself? Does that include the San Francisco 49ers in that vision? And, like I said, we’re going to try to strengthen that position and get us to training camp in the best possible position we can be in.”

if harbaugh says he can do it then i believe him but it could also be a ploy to dump next season to get luck. in his first season with stanford he didnt do so well but he adjusted and had one hell of a program

only way we get Luck next year (2012) is to make a huge trade on draft day to get the top pick in the draft... its gonna cost us at least 2 #1 picks to get luck. plus a 2nd or 3rd probably... AND who ever has next years top spot in the draft has to not need a QB. Lots of variables.

Fuck that. I would not give up two 1st round picks and a 2nd or 3rd rounder for an unproven college QB. Trade all that for Peyton Manning or Tom Brady at the beginning of their prime, hell yeah, but not for a rookie
