given.

I'm still not sold on Williams; maybe that's wrong, but I just don't see 'it' yet from him.
I'm not sold on Williams either. To me, he looked shaky as fuck against Margarito in the late rounds, so I think someone with more power and someone that could work the body more and earlier (what Margarito SHOULD have done), will KO Williams. But in his defense I've only seen him fight twice.

Maybe Emmanuel Augustus will come through and beat them all!

Sin City Boxing Signs Emanuel Augustus
Recommend this page Printable version Search BoxingScene Database
Las Vegas, Nevada "Slick" Nick Sampson & Macke Roberts of Sin City Boxing proudly announce the signing of an boxing advisor agreement with former WBC Continental Americas Jr. Welterweight Champion Emanuel Augustus.

After taking some time away from pro boxing to regroup and contemplate his next move, Emanuel Augustus is back with a new team firmly behind him and he's ready to fight the best fighters in the welterweight division to accomplish his goal of becoming welterweight champion of the world.

Emanuel Augustus says "Taking my boxing career to the next level with Sin City Boxing I believe is a great opportunity that I really appreciate and welcome. Since my departure from my previous promoter Lou Dibella, I really thought that my career was over, now that I have signed with Sin City Boxing, I'm looking forward to good things in my career with Sin City Boxing."!!

Nick Sampson & Macke Roberts of Sin City Boxing says "Emanuel Augustus is one of most talented, exciting and entertaining fighters in the pro boxing game today. Unfortunately for Emanuel he has never had the right team behind him to get him the right fights or to make his boxing career a priority. We see a lot of talent in Emanuel Augustus and were very excited to have the opportunity to work with a fighter of his caliber. We have big plans for Emanuel Augustus. We look forward to seeing Emanuel Augustus rise above all the doubters and adversity to become a force in the welterweight division."

Emanuel Augustus says "With my new team Sin City Boxing behind me I have big plans for 2008. I've been training at welterweight for the past 6 months, If a good opportunity happens at 140 I will consider it but for now I'll be fighting at 147.

Nick Sampson and Macke Roberts of Sin City Boxing see a bright future for Emanuel Augustus. "There are many people in boxing who doubt the talent and skill of Emanuel Augustus. He is going to shock alot of people in the pro boxing industry within the next 12-18 months."

Emanuel Augustus says "To all the 140lb fighters who have ducked me the last few years I don't really have anything to say to them but the fighters at 147 better watch out, I'm bringing a big surprise!! I wanna thank Sin City Boxing for taking an interest in my boxing career. I'm looking forward to a good future."

Too bad he didn't get a good team behind him earlier in his career, unfortunately I think his best days may be behind him.

But he williams was schooling Margarito in the earlier rounds I think he gas out in the 8rd, the fighter I'm not sold on style Margarito every big fight I saw him in he came on late thats why I'm kind of leaning towards juda of all things both of these fighter need a big win bad to get back in thick of things I hope this fight will be a good one

You sure you don't have both these guys mixed up? Margarito has lost two fights in the last 12 years while Judah has lost 5 of his last 15 fights, most of them being "big". (Cotto/Mayweather/Tszyu/Spinks/Baldomir)

Ok, so it doesn't look like it's going to be a double header, two separate events.

1. Cotto/Gomez:

Gomez Agrees To Terms For Miguel Cotto
01-21-2008

By Rick Reeno

According to Jeff Wald, who promotes Contender star Alfonso Gomez (18-3-2, 8KOs), the financial terms have agreed upon to fight WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (31-0, 25KOs) on April 12 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

As we recently reported a few days ago, Gomez's manager Gary Gittelson did not accept the financial terms that were presented for the fight. It appears the situation has been resolved and the fight is close to being a done deal.

"The fight will be done. There is no problem with Top Rank. There is no problem with Gary Gittelson. The financial terms have been agreed upon," Wald said to BoxingScene.com.

As noted last week, Cotto's promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, is looking at the opening co-feature to be a rematch between WBO junior welterweight champion Ricardo Torres and Kendall Holt.

2. Judah/Margarito
Former undisputed welterweight champion Zab "Super" Judah has informed Boxingtalk.com that a bout between him and former WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margarito is in the works. According to Judah, if a deal is finalized the bout would take place in Atlantic City, New Jersey on April 26. Full interview with Judah to follow on Monday.

I think if Margarito can keep his volume of punches up, he's going to outwork and outpoint Judah, who's been known to gas late in fights.

I don't understand how Gomez got a shot at Cotto, unless this is supposed to be a tuneup for Cotto, I would have rather seen him fight Cintron ( he's been cleared for his hand injury )

Anyways...147 is stacked...and easily the best division in boxing...a lot of potential for great fights...assuming Floyd sticks around.

Eventually I believe we have to see a Cotto Mayweather fight..

Jesus this shit is getting confusing.

According to ESPN, Judah vs Margarito is OFF (Judah unhappy about money), however, now Margarito will fight Kermit Cintron (rematch) for Cintron's title. This will be the under card to Cotto vs Gomez.

The bad news is Judah fans obviously don't get to see him fight. The good news is Cintron/Margarito should be just as, if not more exciting to watch. Plus, if Margarito wins and then fights Cotto, it will be a unification bout.

Margarito-Cintron Done Deal For April 12 on HBO

By Rick Reeno

Don Tremblay of Main Events has just contacted BoxingScene.com to inform us that Kermit Cintron vs. Antonio Margarito is a done deal for the April 12 undercard to Miguel Cotto's defense of the WBA welterweight title against Alfonso Gomez at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

HBO will televise.

Cintron (29-1, 27KOs) will defend his IBF welterweight title against Margarito (35-5, 25KOs) in a rematch of their 2005 encounter, where Margarito handed Cintron the only loss of his career with a fifth-round stoppage. The winner has been promised a unification bout with Cotto for July (provided that he beats Gomez).

Zab Judah, who was previously scheduled to fight Margarito on the card, could not come to terms with Top Rank on the money being offered.

Cintron better man the fuck up this time.

I was just thinking though, who the fuck promotes Gomez? why would you put this kid in the ring with Cotto, it's really not a smart move at all, they're gonna fuck up his whole carreer just to go out on a limb and fight arguably the best fighter @147.
Then it dawned on me.
The Fight is in Atlantic City New Jersey. Gatti country. Let the Gatti worshippers get some vengeance watching the Gatti killer get K.O'd? Conspiracy theory? you decide.....

No but for real Arum's been trying to get Margo and Cotto together since margarito fought williams and Cotto fought zab. But much like Margarito and Cotto's last outings, Cotto will be standing at the end of the night, but as for Margarito I'm not as sure.

Arum promotes both Cotto and Margarito and you know what? He's working REALLY hard to get Cotto vs Margarito at Yankee stadium. check it out:

Will boxing return to The Stadium?

By Kevin Iole

Friday, Jan 25, 2008 7:01 pm EST

More than 30 years after a near-disaster, Bob Arum may get a crack at promoting another boxing match in Yankee Stadium.

Arum has all but finalized a welterweight title doubleheader for April 12 in Atlantic City, N.J., but the kicker is that he is hoping to have the winners meet on July 26 in Yankee Stadium.

Miguel Cotto will defend his WBA welterweight belt against reality series star Alfonso S. Gomez, while Antonio Margarito will challenge Kermit Cintron for the IBF crown in an HBO-televised doubleheader from Boardwalk Hall on April 12.

Arum is hoping for a Cotto-Margarito bout, since he promotes both men. But as long as Cotto wins, Arum will then pit him against the winner of the Margarito-Cintron fight in New York.

Arum said Madison Square Garden is on hold in case a deal can't be reached for Yankee Stadium, but he's hopeful to be able to pull it off.

"There's something about saying you have an event in Yankee Stadium," said Arum, a native New Yorker and diehard New York Giants' fan. "The connotation when you put an event there, whether it's a fight or a concert or whatever, is that it is huge."

If the July 26 bout lands in Yankee Stadium, it won't be Arum's first, though he'll undoubtedly have more luck than he did on his first venture.

That night, despite the presence of the greatest draw in the history of the sport in the main event, Arum sold only eight tickets on the night of the fight.

On Sept. 28, 1976, Muhammad Ali defended the WBA and WBC heavyweight titles against Ken Norton. But because there was a police strike in New York then, Arum's visions of a killer box office never materialized.

He didn't lose a lot of money because of good pre-fight ticket sales, but Arum said he anticipated a major windfall. But with the police on strike, gang members were running rampant in the area around the stadium.

"Fans got out of the (subway) and looked around and turned around and went back," he said. "They were all afraid. New York was a different place back then. This is a huge thing, Ali, the title, the third fight between these guys, outdoors at Yankee Stadium. I'm thinking this is going to be as big a fight as it gets.

"And then that's the night the police strike started and we were killed. I remember we had 108 ticket takers set up and we only sold eight tickets. It's almost impossible to believe that, but it's true."

He expects to do better for both the April 12 show and then the subsequent fight in July. The unbeaten Cotto is a huge draw in the Metropolitan New York area because of the large contingent of Puerto Ricans living there.

Cotto, who is No. 4 on the Yahoo! Sports top 10, drew 21,000 to Madison Square Garden for a June fight against Zab Judah and then nearly 18,000 for a November bout with Shane Mosley.

He should have few problems against Gomez, who was an unexpected star on Season 1of the boxing reality series, The Contender, when it was on NBC.

But even though Margarito destroyed Cintron when they fought on April 23, 2005, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas for the WBO belt that Margarito then held, that bout should be much more interesting this time around.

Cintron hired noted trainer Emanuel Steward and has become one of the most improved fighters in the world. He's subsequently won the IBF title, which he'll defend against Margarito, who knocked him out in five rounds in 2005.

"Cotto and Gomez should be a very entertaining fight for as long as it goes," Arum said. "Of course, we are hoping for and expect Cotto to win, but Gomez is a tough kid and he comes to fight and he puts on a show every time. That's should be a lot of fun.

"And this other fight, who knows how it is going to come out? I know this, it's going to be one where both of them fight and don't run around and dance. This is the way it should be."

And if Cintron loses, again, I have a feeling we will see one of the wildest meltdowns in the ring since Bite Night. He has been borderline obsessed with Margarito since he lost (and cried in the ring!). He has made so many excuses and never accepted that he got beat, always blames it on this and that. That was a huge blow to his ego when he lost and if he loses again, I think some funny shit will go down!

I don't see the point in putting Cintron in the ring with Margarito again right now. Cintron hasn't looked much improved and another beating at the hands of Margarito could be a money making disaster for him. Cintron would've had a better shot if he would've stuck with his fight against Williams IMO.

EDIT: Also Cotto kills Gomez. His handlers probably know this is a great time to cash out on him. He has a big name win over Gatti and this is sure to be a big payday for them.

Cintron-Margarito rematch is much better, but I wouldn't be surprised if Cintron pulls the upset. Either way, both guys could give Cotto a run for his money. I'd like to see Paul Williams thrown in the mix somewhere as well...his size advantage and workrate will definitely cause for some good matchups in his favor, IMO
