I'll admit, I came into this thread with a semi smartass reply, but going back and reading the thread, I see this dudes (rmillerpacers31) point.
As far as myspace goes...
In reality, there are a lot of rappers on myspace that tend to leave comments like "Thank you for the support." or "Come check out my new song" fliers ect etc...thank God for approving before actually letting em' go up on my page. I delete all of em' (comments/messages). These cat's fucking up the game though. What worked for one dude, doesn't work for everybody. As soon as we hear what one dude did to break into the game...a million plus people rush the gate with the same game plan. Thinking, it's gonna work for em' too...trying to take a shortcut / overnight celeb and shit. I'm in no way saying I'm any big time dude...far from. BUT! they leave comments like "come show me love on my page, comment on my song." I'm sure they do that to a bunch of people...
I believe as long as you take the time (lots of it), to interact with people...not just use their myspace pages to splat em' with your fliers / promotions. That's just as bad as going to somebody's house you've only said "Hi" to a few times and stick your promotion stickers all over their cars and house...turn around and telling them, "Thank you for the support". First of all, they don't know who the fuck you are and don't really give a shit. This is why some people don't accept friend request from bands...cause some of you are full of shit thinking that by posting your bogus bullshit on somebody's page you automatically made an impact.
Fuck following the footsteps of the next man, step back and think of a new game plan. Cause the one you tryin' to use...there are a million plus doing the same shit. Unless, you think you can really stand out and shine in a crowd of a million people...go for it.
...but I tend to think that while everybody rushes and knocks on the front door that's locked, some people are smart enough to check for an open window, or try the back door.
