I feel that anyone from my era that is rapping is really just telling their stories growing up. Now, people have families, tryna make a decent living.. tired of going in and out of jail or lookin at years behind bars... Tired of putting their lives on the line.... just tired of the bullshit in the streets. Its why most try to rap, make something different for themselves.
One of my homies was part of Wu Tang West (Black Knights of the Northstar).. he's in his mid 30's and a few years back, he did a 2yr bid, and prior he did another couple bids. He got a decent job and told me that he was tired of starting over in life.. He was tired of losing everything he had... so he went out and any job he could get.. he was happy to have. Oh yeah, his production is on XXL Vol 4 too.
Seriously, aint nothing wrong with having a square job or going to college (which people clown as being square). I WISH it was the 90's where the talent we have now would have gotten the shots needed to make it mainstream.
As for Ise B's verse about aint never having a square job, homey did 12yrs!!! I know guys that have felonies tryna go straight and dont have the "rap opportunity" as a kick back. So this kinda goes to not just rappers, but G's in general.

Ive seen some rich people look like the most lonliest mother fuckers in the world all while having 50 people standing around them looking happy and partying...comforts enough for me. if i was ever rich id give back half my earnings to make southeast san diego better. i dont like to live beyond my own comfort level...but see thats just me...i think id rather be rich in love than paper...some people have dreams theyve had since a kid....they always wanted a lamborghini...i was more like damn, malcom x is that nigga...lol
i can understand the rap though, because really, people want to live in another persons shoes. its virtual reality. niggas used to watch bruce lee and then do jump kicks all over the house...go see boyz in the hood in the theatre and they wanna fight after..sex drugs money and violence sells....i dont believe its always right to mislead your listeners or be fake about how you make your money but i do realize rap is entertainment....i dont really trip off whos real when i hear a rap song...everyone ive ever met in my life was a human like me, they sit down on the toilet and take shits like me....cant die with your money..
but you know, when niggas hate on peopel like soldja boy i ask them..have you bought your mom a house yet? yeah hes not telling detailed hood stories...but he did enough to keep his family good..to me thats the ultimate goal of selling drugs in the first place....

but the overarching reason for college is to experience new things. now I am writing an essay as we speak on this same subject, and whoever wants to debate, lets debate[not argue]. but college is for experience and to show that you have, and are capable of learning something and sticking something out.

College is what you make it. Yeah, in High school, we were all kinda forced to go unless you got kicked out of flunked out. After 18, its your choice to change your path/life.. I wasted 2yrs of my life sitting down.. and after that i realize I NEED to go foward and not backwards. I got my academics up, spent some time at a technical college for automotive repair, autobody and welding.. continued to do school for medical field.. now I work at a hospital doing noninvasive cardiac/thoracic/vascular/neuro procedures.
I went to college and studied, but I also enjoyed my time there. It was the best decision in my life.. but I wouldnt have the job I have now if it werent for college.
But again, I dont have a rap career. I can tell how I grew up and what was around me... but since I aint a rapper, I had to step up and move forward in my life.
Having a Job to pay bills and going to college to further yourself... I dont understand why someone wouldnt want to do that.. even if he was a rapper.
Black Mikey is in school too.. to do better for himself. Can Not Hate that.
