I dont wanna read it... gangsta rappers dont have jobs! They selling the drugs they rap about!!..thats y i love mitchy and nipsey hussle.. they never had a 9 to 5 in they life..
Nipsey is young.... and he had the money from Big U to make things happen... any other rapper that dont got a "backing" does things on their own.
People said the samething about rappers going to college. Mitchy said he went to college.
I feel that anyone from my era that is rapping is really just telling their stories growing up. Now, people have families, tryna make a decent living.. tired of going in and out of jail or lookin at years behind bars... Tired of putting their lives on the line.... just tired of the bullshit in the streets. Its why most try to rap, make something different for themselves.
One of my homies was part of Wu Tang West (Black Knights of the Northstar).. he's in his mid 30's and a few years back, he did a 2yr bid, and prior he did another couple bids. He got a decent job and told me that he was tired of starting over in life.. He was tired of losing everything he had... so he went out and any job he could get.. he was happy to have. Oh yeah, his production is on XXL Vol 4 too.
Seriously, aint nothing wrong with having a square job or going to college (which people clown as being square). I WISH it was the 90's where the talent we have now would have gotten the shots needed to make it mainstream.
As for Ise B's verse about aint never having a square job, homey did 12yrs!!! I know guys that have felonies tryna go straight and dont have the "rap opportunity" as a kick back. So this kinda goes to not just rappers, but G's in general.
I like Ric Nutt's "Rap shit gotta crack, kuz we aint got no pension".
It is what it is tho. if you like guys that never had a job.. you like guys that never had a job. Lil wayne never had job either.
The people I like to listen to are the people I can identify with. People that live real lives, people that are down to reality.. I was never into the jewelry rap, the bentely rap, the mansion rap... bekuz its shit I dont identify with.... I'm a regular working joe that has felonies attached to my name.
quotes from that thread.
a job is a hustle..only dumb muthafuckas dont understand that...and having multiple dont do nothin but boost your pockets period
only a little kid or dumb muthafucka is gonna try and clown sumone for havin a J-O-B
Exactly man , keep in mind that some of these rappers are just flat out ego maniacs who are just "rap drunk". They think a job is going to ruin their "image". Meanwhile, the humble brother who just got released from sittin' down somewhere, and would love an opportunity to work and try to fund some music projects, gets turned away because of his criminal record. Classic.
right right......everybody wanna talk about hustlin and how big of a hustler they are.....get you a nice paying job is one of the biggest hustles you can get
AIN'T NOTHING WRONG WITH A JOB CUZ AIN'T NOTHING WRONG WITH MAKING MONEY...BUT MOST RAPPERS OUT HERE IN CALIFORNIA HAVE SOME KIND OF STREET CREDIBILITY OR TIES OR THEY WOULD HAVE ALREADY BEEN EXPOSED CUZ IT IS REAL OUT HERE FROM DIEGO ALL THE WAY 2 THE BAY.....THE VALLEY IS WHERE THE BANGERS ARE AND YOU CAN TELL BY THE MUSIC....BEING IN THIS BUSINESS IS A JOB & JUST CUZ PEOPLE HAVE SKILLS DOESN'T MEAN THEY ARE WORTH SOMEONE'S MONEY AS AN INVESTMENT SO IT'S ALWAYS GOOD 2 BE ABLE 2 INDEPENTLY FUND YOUR OWN ENDEAVORS...THAT WAY YOU DON'T HAVE 2 OWE ANYBODY & IF YOUR FIRST ATTEMPT IS NO THAT SUCCESSFUL YOU CAN HAVE YOUR OWN EXPERIENCE IN THE BUSINESS...I RESPECT RAPPERS THAT WORK AND FIT MUSIC INTO THEIR SCHEDULE...I WOULD SAY IT ALL DEPENDS ON YOUR PERSONAL SITUATION.....AIN'T 2 MANY MILLIONARE RAPPERS THAT I KNOW OF
Good posts in here....
I love all the cats that say "I don't need a job...I'm just gonna wait till I make it big"...And would just rather be broke than take care of themselves (and in many cases their kids) just cause they think day jobs are for suckers.
Real talk though, to hold down a day job takes discipline and yeah, WORK...If you can't hold down a 9-5 then you won't MAKE it in music because it means your work ethic is weak.
Now, in no way am I sayin' cats who rap and hustle (aka a non 9 to 5) have no work ethic. Hell, grindin' is a 24-7 job. And so is music if you want to REALLY make it. It's more aimed at slouches that just sit around and mooch off people till they "hit it big".
daaamn,i got my fork life license a few years ago.that shit pays real good.aint nothing wrong with having a jobby job.never was and never will be.
