i think its not really separating but just bring forth a bigger spotlight to the northern cali since the hype is building and can't afford to miss out on progressing in the music game. there has been collaborations between north and south rappers but it was never consistent or majority but it did and still does happen. its just human nature to be prideful of ones area, whether its the block, city, state or nation.
