that!!! and alot of them dont have the kno how as far as where to go or what to pay for pressing album covers flyers and etc. imo a lack of knowledge out side of just recording their material...
LIKE COOP SAID. MOST OF THE OFFICIAL ARTISTS OUT HERE HAVE PLENTY RECORDINGS TO DROP MULTIPLE PROJECTS, I JUST THINK ITS THE OUTLETS TO MOVE MUSIC. IN OTHER CITIES THERE IS PLENTY DISTRO OUTLETS, OUT HERE THERE IS ONLY A COUPLE PEOPLE WIT DISTRO SO IF THOSE CATS DONT FUCK WIT YOU, YO ROAD IS A LIL BIT RUFFER. PLUS WE (PERSONALLY SPEAKING) DONT JUST PUT OUT THE FIRST THING WE BREATH ON.

Let me say it like this...there is plenty of talented artist in dago.....so what. When I say this it doesn't mean I do not care. Think of the other side...the label..the distributer.
Why would any label sign a dago artist who has zero buzz? why would a distributer distribute your album when you have no following? Shit you do not need a distributer in dago to get distribution...even if there were more distributers in dago you would have the same chance of distribution as through any distributer...my question is this for those who think the distribution is tough to get. Have you written up a marketing plan..a business plan, do you have a budget? I think this goes to the misconception of what a distributer does. Anyone can get distribution, but ya need the above things I mentioned...this takes it back to when i said LAZINESS....not many artists wanna get on the road or even out their house to promote...shit if you cant sell units in your own city....then why would anyone want to distribute your shot anyways?

It doesn't take much $$ to put out an album nowadays... if you can't get that together then you probably have no mind or heart and don't belong rapping in the 1st place

I agree there's not much support of indi music in SoCal... the fact is, everybody's a rapper nowadays... 5 years ago and on, it was a lil more unique in my opinion

I think LA needs a strong indie scene which is easier said then done. U got all of those major labels & cats wanna go big but even Cube & WC doing it indie now. Maybe other cats in LA can follow that as well. But from what I've seen in the past is when an LA artist try to go indie they get ignored by the LA people except the Chiconos. They put out there music indie & keep it moving.

Rap sucks because it has no Soul anymore. It ain't Funky. It's some techno/trancey/electronical sounding bullshit. If this were 12 years ago, many people would think today's shit sounds gay and really fucking corny. It is though, I would have never thought people be raving and poppin pills to Rap. Fucking wierdos. Fuck that shit homies, put some soul into your shit. Real Hiphop is founded on Funk/Jazz/Classical elements, not some fucking techno shit. :lick: The sound of the music is just as important, it sets the vibe for the lyrics. Producers, step your fucking shit up. You can't tell a good story lyrically if your beat has wierd noises, whistles, wierd synth FX sounds and other retarded bullshit. Todays shit ain't musical. Whatever happened to using piano, guitar, bass, acoustic drums and other REAL shit. Motherfuckers ain't got good taste in music. That's the difference between the Rappers of today and yesterday. The greats always rapped on good sounding music. Dammnitt, the WestCoast once had great sounding music and were the ones being imitated. Now we want to imitate some WACK ass sounding shit from the South. fuuuuuuckkkkk that. Piece of shit music IMHO.

^^on that note i blame the NEW south, the old south kept it real too but now scarface and a couple others are the only ones keepin it real
fuck all that crunk/snap/booty rap
Yup, the new South are the ones to blame. Because of them, Rap has gone to $hit.

Imma specifically blame Lil Jon and Youngbloodz for that song "Damn." From that song on, this shit has never stopped.

you can blame the south if you want...in my honest personal opinion they have the most garbage music(can you even call it that?) these days. BUT could it be that they are conforming and relate to, more so than other regions, to what the masses are into nowadays? I put alot of the blame on the listener. Most of these fucks bumpin that retarded garbage (not just the south, im talkin garbage from anywhere) are people who dont even listen to hip hop. If they hear it on the radio, its gotta be good. If they hear it in the club, its gotta be somethin good right? I personally know people like this, and I will leave the room if they start speakin on "music" in order to avoid a huge mess of an argument. Even if i had all the reason in the world with my argument towards them, you cant beat the masses!

@50cal: do you think support from the general public is a factor? I been noticing for years, we don't get that much local support. just the select few the follow dago rap. sort of like a cult following.
Support dont come knockin at your door while you smoke blunts and play madden all day. You have to build a fan base, you have to have a way that they can easily get your music....how many times an artist drop and you can't find the c.d? and the net is cool, but not everyone is online and if they are they may not even be checking music sites like this.

lIKE cOOP SAID, IT'S MORE OF A LACK OF KNOWLEDGE. oN some aspects, its lack of hustle. I've been grinding nationwide but I feel I have to have a strong hand in my City's scene b kuz that'z what's important. A COLLECTIVE Daygo movement will unify the city and the west. I started my label in the South in 2003. I saw first hand why the south blew. fOR ONE, EVERYBODY wuz independent and they all work with each other. No one is trying to be the best. They just gettin money. That's why the East coast fell off. Everyone wanted to be the best...fuck the fame...get Doe!!! As a city, we makin progress but it's like Mitch said...We segregated with all the gang shit...if we collab more as a city, we gone blow up. Daygo got too many factor azz rappers, and so many you never heard off.....it'z time to make that move.......

yea lack of knowledge is the main reason because niggas dont know who to go to for duplication and or who got the best prices.that and comin up with the doe to promote a project takes time as well when you all the way independent and comin out of pocket.you can get package deals but shit adds up when you go to reup time and time agen.its best to get your covers ordered in bulk (cheap) @ wavewerks.com (glossy album material inserts front and back) and get your cd duplication either through siccness or one of these places.burning on one cd rom is strenuous alone.thats the cheapest way to go.that and artists jump on mixtapes to stay relevant while prepin an album or compilation. and a artist like myself tends to take time putting out a project cuz we want the best quality music possible for our projects.its not always bout quantity and how often a nigga drops an album.D-rough's two cents.what yall think?

I personally don't think there's much money in music anymore... in the 90's if you had a cd out, you were the shit! Your cd could be garbage, but if you had one people respected it.

Now anyone can go into their closet and produce something. That's why there's no SOUL in music... bunch of copycats. Almost everytime I read an interview it sounds the same... same story, same comments, similar flow... Nobody cares about that shit anymore because we've all heard it before... just like you have a cult following in Dago for some underground, but other than that, nobody gives a fuck!! Nobody's checking for new artists anymore- Are you?? I know I'm not.

People I knew when I was rapping from YEARS ago that have no business rapping and putting out cd's are doing it nowadays!

yea kats are still at home burning cd's and making album covers on photo shop..
still using slim cases no shrink wrap therefore its not store ready to sit on anybody shelves and these are the kats that are really out hustling...

now for the cats that do have the knowlegde once they get product they have no ambition to get out there and hustle (like 50cal states laz yiness) most kats think there stars cause one song is getting 2 spins a week on local show catered for local artist and that in itself is a big problem imo.

90% business 10% rap and it all boils down alot of us arent real good business men..
