Yeah I agree with 206, he should fight someone that he's going to destroy and/or look good doing it so then the critics won't say that Marquez was done or shot.

I personally think he should just wait until November but that is a long time from now so I see why he's fighting.

It makes sence that a Pac fan looks at it that way. SMFH

What ever happened to folks wanting to see a good entertaining fight.
oscar de la hoya vs felix sturm (before hopkins fight).

Marquez could pick a straight bum but he's picking diaz who is a tough, durable guy who will give him a fight. That is risky and he's doing it for the fans.

thats why folks dont watch boxing nomore, because off shitty fights.
it will be a small card in Mexico and it will be known to everyone watching it's a tune up fight. Not sure how that is relevant.

It's smart to take tune up fights and stay busy fights, as long as you don't have it on PPV and sell it to the public as anything but that.

You have to be careful, though. It's a tricky match making process.

@206, you don't get what i'm trying to say, homie!

I understrand what your saying, but to me it's fucked up to give the fans a one sided fight.

I'd rather see two no names or youngsters putting on a good fight, then to watch two vets with big names giving us a lousy fight. I'm a boxing fan but a bigger fan of good entertaining fights.

I thought you would say something dumb like that.

Any dumbass that thinks that a boxer should avoid any challenging fights just to avoid a possible lose, should not be allowed to share his stupid thoughts.

wtf are u talking about man??? are we talking about the same thing here?? marquez is going to fight pacquiao in november it doesn't get more challenging than that! he's simply taking a tune up fight in the summer for one so he's not rusty against pac and two to get used to the weight. smh. who do you think marquez should fight in the summer mayweather again???

maybe u don't quite understand what a tune up or stay busy fight means.

diaz is a legit opponent all I'm saying is its a bit risky since he's planning on fighting pacquiao immediately after. if he he has a bad fight or loses obviously that would suck big time for him.

remember when margarito fought golden johnson as his tune up before cotto? it served the purpose perfectly for him he got a ko and looked impressive while staying busy. that is usually the point of s tune up before a big fight. remember when de la hoya had a tune up against sturm before hopkins? he looked like shit and arguably lost so clearly that didn't look good

Is that what a true boxing fan wants to see? Someone like Marquez fight a washed up boxer.

And is Diaz a tune up fight or a legit opponent ?
Tune ups and confidence building fights have been happening since before both of us were born and they'll be happening after both of us pass.

As for David Diaz, Diaz is a tune up that not many guys can use as a tune up. It's not a fight I'm clamoring to see but tune ups are a part of the business and depending on the match up sometimes an unfortunate part. I wouldn't mind Marquez getting some rounds in against a decent, hard to stop fighter if he's definitely gonna be stepping in the ring with Pacquiao.

.. and just for the record I don't think the Pac/JMM fight will be any different than the first two. JMM isn't slow footed, isn't scared to punch in between Pac's punches, and is gonna be faster than most people he's fought lately. I don't care what happened with Mayweather, Marquez will always be a terrible style match up for Pacquiao and he's going in there knowing he's fought damn near close to even with him.

i agree. a lot of people are assuming that because marquez looked bad against mayweather he will look bad against pac but its simply a difference in styles. against floyd jmm was forced to be the agressor and chased floyd around walking into traps and that's not his game jmm is a counter puncher. he won't have that problem against pac because pac will be the aggressor and that's when jmm shines, his countering.

JMM is Pacquiao's Frazier, imo. He could lose to other guys but he'll always be a tough matchup for Pac.

George Foreman absolutely destroyed Fraizer, worst loss of his career. But that was a terrible matchup for Frazier. Of course not long after that embarrassing loss he fought Ali two more time and each time went tooth and nail with Ali.

neither floyd nor pac should have to fight Sergio Martinez, who is currently the MIDDLEWEIGHT champion of the world and walks around 190 pounds. Even though both pac & floyd flirted with 154 pounds (floyd weighed in at 150 pounds, pac 144) neither have any business there. That would be like asking Sergio Martinez to fight Chad Dawson or the Hopkins/Pascal winner.

manny is doing it fighting bigger guyz that outweight him by alot on fight night...why not floyd. floyd weighs 160 on fight night how much weight u think sergio would put over night if he fought floyd at 154

floyd would be better suited than pac at 154 because he's bigger and he's really grown into a full blown WW and I'm sure he'd be ripped at 154, but still he doesn't have to go up anymore. He shouldn't be criticized for not fighting someone in a higher weight class.

But I agree if he did he would get major props from all of the boxing community and it would look terrific on his resume (and would even "one up" pac).
