i can see what he's trying to say- it's actually a pretty good point, but i wouldn't go as far as saying racism has a positive effect on society. it wasn't the racism that had a "positive" effect in that example, it was black folk's perseverance in overcoming it.

racism's bullshit, bottom line. coming from ANYONE. jokes are one thing, but there's a distinct difference between joking around and actual racism.

Exactly racism is bull shit. However if you look at the bigger picture only a small percentage of Africans came from Africa to the shores of America. I want to say it was a number around 4%.

Basically what I am saying is that African Americans gained a sense of who they were and a sense of their culture identity from the labors of their ancestors and the bull shit that the slave masters inflicted upon their slaves.

Slavery, poverty, death, homelessness, war etc. all are inevitable in society, whether we like it or not. From this though we mold and identify who we are from this torment and suffering. If you take away war, homelessness, poverty then we would all fall off the Earth. The conflict of Evil vs. Good is what animates society.

From this African Americans fought for their freedom and ultimatly won and earned their place in American society as equals. Like I said in the other post, if this fight wasn't fought then Africans in America would have no identity.

On a smaller scale if you look at your own life and look at all the "evil" and the bad things people have done to you and the bad things which you have seen. If you are honest with yourself you can see that you can pull good from these bad things and you become a more inteligent person because of suffering.

I think that all people, not just white folk have a bit of anti-culturalism in them, not racism. It is not understanding how others do their shit that creates a tension. The media does not help either since the media passively tells people how to live and different media structures are responsible for anti-culturalism within our own structures!
