Battlecat definitely comes to mind no doubt. He's one of my favorites..

But I would have to go with DJ Quik...

His music literally paints a picture of everything about So Cal to me...brings me back to LA whenever I listen to his shit...I spent a lot of time growing up in So Cal.

I hear you. But I would have to say that if you asked 100 people what West Coast music sounded like, they would describe that Fonk...myself included. Hyphy would be the last thing one would think of when asked about West Coast music.

I'm from The Bay, but as far as the general public goes, I would say that people's perception of The West Coast IS So Cal. Thats just how it is IMO.

Id say Quik or Cold 187um, like Morebass said, thier music brings me back to when I would hit up LA every 6 months or so back in the 90's. As for todays sound, I dont know who I would pick, im not really feeling it as much...

Regardless of what you might think about his business ventures. You can't deny that he is one of the most influential West Coast producers, or producer from anywhere for that matter.

The only reason why I didn't mention Dre is because he sort of ventured off into his own orchestral type sound, and strayed away from the classic Funk sound that The West is known for. Not saying thats a bad or a good thing, but thats the route he took.
