LOL at guilt.

You probably wouldn't feel guilty if your neighbor did something stupid. Probably wouldn't feel guilty if your cousin murdered a child, it sucks but that's on him/her. If a person is feeling guilty about shit some long dead strangers did, they're an idiot.

or more accurately making the observation that the agressors are almost always caucasian? Should white people feel good after watching these movies because one of their 'race' saved the day, even though this one caucasian wouldn't have had to 'save the day' if a bunch of other caucasians didn't start shit in the first place? Maybe it makes them feel good because they can deceive themselves into believing that at least ONE member of their race isn't a fuckhole?

Dats racist.

A bit of insider help never goes astray - to defeat your enemy you have to know your enemy, and who knows your enemy better than the enemy himself?

Sure, most of the men who single handedly help the minority group defeat the enemy are white instead of black, latino, asian etc., but are they making a point regarding the 'helplessness' of minority groups, or more accurately making the observation that the agressors are almost always caucasian? Should white people feel good after watching these movies because one of their 'race' saved the day, even though this one caucasian wouldn't have had to 'save the day' if a bunch of other caucasians didn't start shit in the first place? No, because these movies also include the white teacher or aid helping the minorities from themselves (gangs, drugs, family life, etc.). Even though Apocalypto showed the Mayans in a negative light, it was decent in that you had an Indian cast that occupied antagonist, protagonist, etc. and the Spanish (whites) at the end of the film are placed in an ambiguous role (for you to fill in with your historical knowledge).

Avatar was OK. Maybe I'd have liked it more if the 3-D hadn't bothered me so much...

Anyway, the movie just happens to have a white guy as the main character. It could have just as well starred Will Smith. And in that case, I bet no one would be writing an article about the black human who gets accepted into an alien culture and then becomes its most awesome member.

i bet White people feel hella good inside after watching these movies lol
Potentially as good as non-white people feel after watching these movies.

Call it/people what you want, but "white guilt" is very real.
Maybe it is. I have no experience of it, and I can really only speak for myself.

If a person is benefiting from shit some long dead stranger did how should they feel?
You don't know what you got 'til it's gone, as they say. I doubt that a person who is born into this "benefit" has any experience against which to assess their situation, and thus hasn't (or doesn't tend to) developed feelings of guilt on the matter. Anyone can speculate about how much worse they could have it than they do. A white person could speculate in this way. A black person could speculate in this way. But it is doubtful that many are feeling guilt for the consideration that, somewhere in history, people did bad things to other people and now they are somehow benefiting from it. Whether they ought to be feeling guilty or not is, of course, another issue.

This is pretty much how I feel, but then people might say will smith is a whitewashed black guy so it's still the same. :eyecross:

That reminds me of this message board I went to years ago where a few users were going on about how we will never have a black president. And now that we have a black president, they're all saying, "oh, he isn't really black," because, of course, by "black" they meant militant, fist-pumping, AK carrying, bad mutha-shut-your-mouth.

If the tables were turned, historically, we'd be talking about how convenient it is for non-whites to play dumb. There isn't anything inherently noble about non-whites that would change how they act and feel if the roles were reversed. White people especially do not identify themselves as a collective.

No, people will say awesome, finally a black person can save some other people, it's not just white people saving everyone and others are helpless. It feels good to have some positive role models... and to know your people aren't always just the fucked up ones.

They're right on both accounts, obama is great in the sense that minority youth now at least feel they can be president ("the most important position in the country") one day, and hopefully they will be the "real" blacks, browns, whatever who come to rectify some of the lingering injustices present in this country/

This thread and the arguments behind it are nothing more than racism. Anything can be contrived to have racial undertones. Racists make these contrivances rendering themselves hypocrites and thus undermining and discrediting their initial accusations.

So basically you are saying racism doesn't exist, or am I wrong? You are saying that nothing should be done or said about racism for fear of being racist yourself?

The simple point is, someone is doing something, and someone else is feeling the effects. Whether the aggressor wants to admit to his actions or not is his prerogative, but I'm sure the affected person will continue to speak on how he is being affected.
