What movie did you just watch and what did you think?

Saw it again after years between the last time i watched it.
Brad Renfro is just awful. If it wasnt for Ian McKellans performance i wouldnt have finished it. Brad Renfros character was a shithead and his acting didnt pull it off. I didnt even dislike his character because his emotions seemed so forced for the camera. Fuckin Ross from friends with a mustache who wasnt convincing at all in that last scene.

They should have kept Rick Schroder for the role that Brad played. In fact id like to see the unfinished film Stephen King says was really good. The one that had 10 days left to wrap up but the budget was lacking so the idiots funding the movie killed it.

4/10 and thats because Ian McKellan was in it. I give it a 5 then im just being charitable.

Very interesting film. I guess this was released to film festivals as a mega long version, as a 2 part version, and as a shortened 2 1/2 hr version. The one I wastched was broken into three 1 1/2 to 2 hour long segments. I thought the acting was very good. Édgar Ramírez was fantastic as Carlos. I have yet to be disappointed by him in a movie. Obviously this is long so that will make it hard for a lot of people to view. I watched the three parts over three different days. It helps to know at least some of the history of the time and political groups so you know who's who. They do a good job with subtitles and showing who people are, but if you see someone is from ETA, PFLP, Revolutionary Cells, and you don't know what those groups were it makes it harder to understand the movie. Overall I enjoyed it and give it 3.5 out of 5









Grown Ups

This movie was bad. Couldn't finish it. Unfunny and waaaaay too predictable. The only positive thing I can say about it is that I didn't turn it off sooner so it has to get some points for at least being ok enough I didn't turn it off after 10 mintutes. .5 out f 5

Catfish


Not much I can say about this movie without spoilers. I saw the trailer for this and thought it would be one kind of movie, which is why I watched it, and it turned out to be a different kind of movie, which was a bit of a let down because I had expected different. Given my expectations were dashed I still found this to be a pretty good movie. Definately one that needs to be seen all the way through, but I didn't have any problem getting there. I'm rating this as low as I did because I expected something different, had I not I'd probably give it a 3. 2.75 out of 5

Machete

Too long. Too boring. Not good. I wish he'd stop intentionally trying to make bad movies. I like it better when he tries to makes something good. This was supposed to be Grindhouse bad and it was. 1 out of 5

Racing Dreams

Billed as the Hoop Dreams of racing it didn't live up to the billing. Still an interesting documentary. I would have prefered it to be young kids trying to get into open wheel or sports car racing instead of NASCAR. It was interesting and "cute" but not as revealing or deep as Hoop Dreams or Go Tigers! 2.75 out of 5

Liam Neeson hunts down Pierce Brosnan in the post Civil War Nevada. Pretty interesting movie and the end is weird, so thats always a plus. Probably need to watch it again. 6/10

Another movie I watched about a week ago was a 2 part french film named Mesrine(Killer Instinct is Pt 1). Good movie that I saw on Netflix, but unfortunately the second part (Public Enemy Pt 2) of the movie isn't available.

Synopsis...

This blistering biopic stars Vincent Cassel as notorious French gangster Jacques Mesrine. The first in a duology, the film details the genesis of Mesrine's career, including an incident in the army that gave him his first taste of violent power. Gerard Depardieu co-stars in this commanding, stylish film (based on the autobiography Mesrine wrote shortly before breaking out of prison), which has been favorably compared to Brian DePalma's Scarface.

Let Me In

This is the American remake of the Let The Right One In, a Swedish vampire flick (which i loved). They did a good job keeping the overall feel of the original, with the scenes (some looking nearly identical to the OG). The one major complaint I have on this one is the score: there was too much of it. It dictated some of the scenes emotion wise, when it shouldn't have. Also, the few CGI scenes were corny as fuck and looked awful (when abby kills). I have no clue why they thought they needed that.

Reeves also left out a few parts, and made the movie more "American" as far as explanations go (less subtle). I wont lie, there were a few things in the OG that i didn't quite get, but this movie explained them (blame it on culture).

Overall, it was fairly good. However, I found myself comparing the two the entire time i was watching it, which made it slightly difficult to enjoy, and that's all on me.

I watched Tales from the Script yesterday. It's a Doc that chronicles how difficult the process of writing a screenplay is and how even more difficult it is to have it actually made. It chronicles some of the most popular movies in the world and the writers of the scripts offer insight to getting those scripts made into movies. It is a most excellent doc to watch, especially if you're a writer or wanting to enter the entertainment industry in Hollywood. 5/5

American Graffiti and Cooley High.

Basically the white and black version of growing up teens in the 60s.

I like Cooley High a lot more, cause even though I'm white I can relate to it more. Never really had a car to drive around growing up, but was hanging around, smoking, drinking, doing stupid shit all the time.

Also the ending in Cooley High is a lot better, even though kinda sad. But to me realistic.
