Why do you guys keep saying the Bay blew up after MD died? The Bay didn't blow up after he died...every rapper hopped on a bandwagon, people started listening a bit, then the hype died when they realized all the rappers out here were doing the same shit as one another.

Stop speculating. This place is full of unoriginal rappers who bite styles to try and make it, and I doubt Mac Dre would have been supportive of that kind of shit. You go to L.A, or the south, or the East...you will hear rappers of all types...spittin' with their own style, walkin' around showcasing their own swagger. Here, you see a bunch of overnight rap artists with big ass glasses, dressed and lookin' like Mac Dre, and sayin the same shit as the next man.

You know what makes a good rap artist? A man that thinks he's the SHIT, walks his own walk and talks his own talk, and gives a shit what everybody else is doin'. That's what Mac Dre was, a good artist. Now stop saying the Bay blew up, get back to the drawing board and come up with a new formula, rather than trying to figure out a new way to eat off a dead man's swagger. Let the man rest in peace, and change the game like he was trying to do, but in your own way.

I honestly think in a way thats why the bay is unable to blow up, last time a bay area rapper was on top he was exposing all the east coast rappers making em look like suckas. Most bay area rappers were and are still real street cats, i don't see that in most mainstream rappers they all seem like packaged corporate images of what a street cat is supposed to be. Most of those dudes are phony

EXACTLY! Which is why all the shit that's goin' on confuses the fuck out of me. Cats are starting to turn themselves into corporate images, and they need to stop that shit. Learn from Mac Dre, create your own movement...and ride that shit 'til it needs to change.

i dont think Dre would even make it to MTV, think about it, the only reason the bay blew was cuz he died. all the white kids jumped on the bandwagon of mac dre, then to the thizz bandwagon which turned into the mistah fab bandwagon and then the bay got exposure. besides too short and a few others the bay would still be behind in the rap game. its sad but its true.
Uhhhh...actually, the only reason the Bay "blew", was becuase of E-40, NOT Mac Dre.

yeah no white people liked dre before he died
Dre did have his share of white fans...him and Nickatina both have had solid white fanbases, not these goofy ass idiots who wear their glasses with no lenses, mardi gras beads, and flea market mac dre shirts. They would sell out shows in places like Chico, Santa Cruz, and Gilroy and it would be mostly white folks, and this was back in 99-2002.

i'm white, I hella liked dre ever since I started listening to rap. Like 2 or 3 years before he died he began to get huge in the North Bay wit white people, but even 3 to 4 years before he died most people hated on him and would always tell me oh hes not sick, mac mall's sicker and shit. But after he died any white person who didnt listen to him started throwin up Ts and all this shit, like everyone at my school from punk rockers to emo's got on that shit lol I guess i get annoyed wen people say oh all these white kids never listened to dre before he died cuz i aint in that boat, but its true for the most part, dude gained so many lil white kid fans after he died

I wish everybody would just let the man rest in peace, respect the fact that his sound is just that....HIS SOUND....and stop biting dudes swag. Got a million Mac Dre clones, and not one of them has it like Mac Dre did.

on some real shit Mac Dre had charisma, delivery, and most important his own style. Would he have blown up...not sure. Like most others mentioned, he didn't become popular until his passing. He had fans but not youngsters....most of them were older cats that was listening 2 him from young black brotha days. Would he have appealed to other regions? probably not. One thing 4 sure though was that he was doing him nothing else no gimmick. This bay rap game is a bunch of dudes riding a legacy that a dead man was living...and that is were the gimmick begins. Be you do you...my 2 cents......
