"Lollipop", you call that well thought out music? To me, it's just the same ish over and over. Every dude on the radio be putting out the same sounding ish each day to make easy $$$. Just drop a beat, put the Arp-Trance-Gate ON with your favorite Sawtooth synth lead and rap about $, bitches and materialistic goods and your set to go. The beat doesn't even have to be that complicated, Lollipop proves that. You don't even need to use chords, sometimes not even a bassline, just pitch your 808 kick up and down instead. There you go!

the lollipop song is a hit mainly because of the overproduced voice effects that everyone likes so much for some reason and the words of the song are easy for bar whores and frat boys to memorize.

that Lollipop shit is a nice beat to me. I like it. I dont believe its as simple as yall think. If u can make a beat thats gonna sell millions then why not do it? Commercial or not. People break the beat down and say its too simple. Most Dr. Dre's beats are simple as hell, but i dont hear anyone complaining about them. I wish i can think of some simple as shit and make millions off it.

its not about the beat or the lyrics we all know the song dont even go. its just a bunch of little kids that like lil wayne - no matter what song he puts out its going to be a #1 hit. he could fart on a track and it would sell.

Yeah, I agree, it ain't a "bad" beat at all for what it is. It works for what its trying to achieve and that's a club beat. But my point is, all these new hit songs, all sound the same. There's nothing extra special about the beats themselves, they all use the same sounding synths and rhythmic Arp-Gate. Whatever happened to utilizing real basslines (not just pitching your 808 kick), using chords, using REAL acoustic instruments like the piano and guitar? That's true hiphop, not the "Tech-Hop" we have today, that's unforunately being labeled as Hiphop. It just ain't Hiphop. The production techniques used to make these new songs don't really take much skill at all. The synths/FX do most of the work. It ain't hard to keep one finger on a key and have the Arp/Gate doing the rest. It's hella easy to create simple rhythms like that. The hardest part I think when it comes to creating a song like Lollipop is programming the drums.

FL Studio has nothing what so ever to do with it. Most "professional" peeps use, Reason, Pro-Tools, Logic, & Cubase because they shy away from the "Fruity" aspect. The "Fruity" part and carrot logo is what gives it a bad name, not to mention it's affordable price and easily crackable. I highly doubt all them Laffy Taffy club beat producers are using FL Studio. Maybe the average person at their homes, but definitely not them big names out on the radio that are making beats for Lil Wayne n shit. The only one I can think of that used FL Studio is Soulja Boy. The beat is gay as fuck, but it ain't FL's fault. Then again, that song was the most popular, so what the fuck. Stupid ass times right now, period, in all of music, not just Rap. Real rockers have a problem with Emo, real Hiphop lovers have a problem with the new age Club Rap. So no one is happy right now, all commericial music is BS, ATM and it's the truth. No one truely gives a fuck about the art of music, it's all done for money, simple as that.

I think it flew right above your head....
In simple terms....
Todays beatmaking tools are affordable, more people have access to making beats because you can get beatmaking software from little to nothing....So 10,000 of the 10,050 beatmakers are calling themselves beatmakers when if they really had to pay about 3,000- 4,000 like back in the day they wouldnt be interested at all..thisused to seperate the ones who were serious and really want to share their artistic visions...Im not saying that made veryone with gear a producer or hot..it just weeded out more of the ones who wasnt serious....now you have people who are bored on a weekend, and download a software program...and they have fun like its a game and now they producers...

How can u not like the 808, BooBoo? I love that shit. Thats just me. I just love bass and subs. I like claps too. Thats what they used to use back in the day man.

i just wanna throw this out there. I really think its the sounds that u use, not the equipment. All the sounds people take are just files and waves right? I mean i heard alot of garbage from people using FL, Reason, Cubase. I also heard alot of wack shit from people using the Tritons, Fantoms, and MPC 2000. It would be real difficult to make a nice beat with some bullshit ass sounds with all equipment, software or hardware. Now if u got some clean sounds, and ur good at putting them together, then ur potential of making a nice beat will be alot more possible to make.

But to add another answer to the thread question, i would try to get more sounds. Cuz when u made enough beats using the same sounds, u get real tired of them. Buy some new sounds. Or download em, however yall get em. This software and hardware thing is a never ending war. lol

Nah man, I do like the 808. I just can't stand how it's being utilized today. The kicks are being pitched up and down instead of using actual basslines. Most Rap songs these days don't have basslines, basslines are just being replaced with these long sustained pitched kicks. It's mainly a dirty south club beat I'm talking about, but most peeps are doing the same ish, not just the south. It would just be cool to hear actual basslines, you know? Most rap songs back then are recognizable because of their basslines. Basslines were a big part of G-Funk n shit like that. And CLAPS, I fucken love claps, I use more claps than I do snares. Gotta love that WestCoast clap. I usually layer them though to give snares that pop.

i use an 808 or sine wave if my bassline isnt deep enough for my taste, that way i get the traditional bass sound i want and trunks still rumble. theres nothing wrong with the 808, i think booboo hates that its the only weapon in a lot of producers arsenals. i personally dont give a shit if you use the same shit everytime as long as its hot. my beats dont have a signature sound because i stay away from doing the same thing over and over sound wise. except for the bass. the bass has to be there and nothing does it better than rolands best invention. which is why im miffed at the new fantoms horrible 808 and 909 drumkits. layering multiple sounds will guarantee you get a different sound every time. i can load up a clap kit and hit like 7 of them bitches and get a totally different sound that is practically impossible to reproduce, same with kick drums and basses.
