I agree that he was much crazier back in his anghellic days and I LOVED that.
On the other hand his music has taken a very different direction since. there are more tracks I can't feel related to anymore so I don't like em as much, but there are also songs that fucking BANG.
When I make a Tech best-of CD it's kinda like part 1/part 2 because his stuff til AP/Vintage is hella different from the stuff Everready->present

personally I am glad for tech he got his life together, but I liked the "pain days" better haha

I honestly believe the music changed after the Don Juan split. "Anghellic" is a masterpiece (both versions of it) and remains the, quintessential Tech N9ne record. The production, concepts and approach to that album are still unheard of and unseen by any other Strange Music release to date. I'm a big fan of "Calm Before the Storm" as well, that one was more raw, rough, the beats we're definitely different, but "Anghellic" will always remain Tech's "Doggystyle" or "Illmatic." Even though it was not his first release, it sounded like it and from there we witnessed the siccness which is Aaron D. Yates.

"Absolute Power" is a classic! But on the day I bought it, I noticed the difference in the beats, the approach and the overall, ANGER, of the album. I adore "Slither," "Trapped In a Psycho's Body," "Keep On Keepin' On" and "T9X" the darker songs. That along with the introduction of "Big Krizz Kaliko," Kutt Calhoun, S&S and a song with D-12 (which was good and bad, good because it was D-12, and bad, because of the absence of Eminem) made the album surreal. Plus the videos for "Slacker" and "Imma Tell" were amazing! It was a different direction for Aaron.

After the "ocean of time" we waited for "Everready" and the releases up to today, I've noticed improvements and declines in all areas. The party jams are good, but overdone and the usage of Kaliko on nearly every hook is unecessary. (Look on the liner notes of "Killer" he's on almost every song) Through it all, we have to consider that an artist does "grow" and at times we must face and embrace these changes. I love a lot of his new songs "Hope For A Higher Power" is my ringback right now! Before that it was "Paint A Dark Picture"...

One thing I will say, is that RonZZfromBerlin needs to come back! I know Tech and Don Juan will most likely NEVER record again, but Tech needs to find RonZZ. He did "Victory" and (one of the greatest songs ever) "Breathe"...

Also, Tech needs NEW producers...

Matic Lee is hella tight! I like all that he's done for Tech "One Good Time" is one of my favorite songs period. He's damn good on the beats and the mic. He does not need to be replaced.

But Wyshmaster and YounFyre need to go. Bring Back SEVEN!

On a seperate note, I really feel Tech needs to work with The Alchemist. After watching the Rock The Bells conference, I just hope they can do something, Tech would demolish the sinister beats Alchemist can give him.

Here's to "KOD" and hopes that Slipknot's and SOAD's frontmen make some cameos...

Peace

wow!

Thanks Kain, he's only missing on 7 songs...

Don't get me wrong I love Kaliko's work. I bought "Vitiligo" the day it came out and I didn't put it down until long after "Killer"

"Can't Shake It" and "Happy Ending" topped my favorites list.

okay this is gonna be my long post beause im at work and im feeling alittle opinonated.......

as a producer and a rapper and a avid msic lover...you have to understand that your not gonna like all tech's shit.... PEOPLE CHANGE and they write and feel different emotions.....and visa versa as a listener you change........... your favorite song in '96 may or may not be your favorite song in '09...... listen to how music has evolved just since 2002 .......If tech didn't change and wasn't inovative and also stayed true to him self i woulda stoped listening to him way before he ever had a chance to hear a matic lee beat... being that he is so versitle is a gift and a curse.. i don't like evrything tech does (there isn't much that i don't like ) but i accept that....I understand as and artist its hard to please everyone......thants why i made "never be".....the shit an't easy especially when you strive to create the best music possible.........You can't be everthing to everyone so you might as well be somebody.....Critiquing is cool but damn you can't expect something to never change...LOOK AT THE SHIT EMINEM IS DOING.....i don't like it but i understand why he is doing it....after 4/5 years ...you grow up

...sorry i rambled on so lonG AND AFTER READING THIS I DON'T KNWO IF HALF OF THE SHIT I TYPED IS RELEVANT.... but work is boring as fuck!!!!
I was with you until you said Eminem grew up. He's worse than ever. His last album had songs with fart noises and him rappin about stickin gerbals up peoples asses.

While I agree that as time goes on, the artist mature, and the listeners mature and it almost requires the music to change. 7 years ago I would have thought XV was the wackest fucking rapper I'd ever heard, same thing with Lupe, but I think things have actually gotten better on the creativity side of hip hop. When Del can drop Deltron 3030, or Lupe can bust into mainstream success with Food and Liqour, or XV can drop Square in the Circle and its appreciated by thousands upon thousands...its a good thing for hip hop.

With that said there also comes what alot of people like to call the death of hip hop, the soulja boy's of the game. People need to realize that this more mainstream hip hop has been around for a long ass time, fuck it basically dominated the mid to late 90s after BIG and pac died...see No Limit, see Cash Money, ect. That doesn't mean that it isnt good music, it has pros and cons, just like the "backpack" hip hop does, gangsta rap, and nerd-core (hate that label). Hip Hop has evolved into multiple sub genres just as rock has over the past almost 60 years. The difference is that these hip hop sub genres are just now aligning themselves, and this is a good thing as it will give everyone a honest oppurtunity to be themselves and make the music they want to make.

All that really matters is how the music you listen to relates to you, how it moves you, and nobody should have the exact same music taste as somebody else. I listen to all types of music, from chuck berry, to pink floyd, to system of a down, to tech n9ne, to Lupe, to frank sinatra, to movie scores from don davis to howard shore...that is me, listen to what makes you

Matic i just fucking trumped your post

I think Tech is such in intellegent man that when he was younger he was confined to be a certain person even tho he had his red hair he was still discovering himself as an artist and presented with only a small portion of beats and music than he is available to now. I think the pain is still there but i think, maybe in his head he thinks we dnt wanna hear that anymore or maybe hes tryin to use the party music to uplift himself. But really dudes on top! Hes got fame and respect for the ppl who can grasp what real music is and hes a musician not a rapper so we cant compare him to one, whether or not is old music is better, its like the beatles, the white album is viewed as ONE of the best albums of all time but what others who say Sgt peppers is better, there all in their own journey as musicians and thats that.
