I know what you're sayin' MasZ about gettin' in the car. I think it has something to do with phase change, ya know what i'm sayin'? Like every time something new starts you have a smoke. Before you go to the movies, have a smoke, then light right up on your way out. Another good reason might be that you have a smoke on your way to somewhere, knowing that you're not going to be able to have one once you get there. Maybe not so much in MO, but in NY you can't smoke ANYWHERE except for outside (no schools or government funded buildings, although they don't really enforce that) and private homes. It's fuckin' bullshit.
lighters and matches were once banned from planes after 9/11 and the plastic explosives in the guys shoes happend. but after some lobbying to bush from the tobacco companies, they were admitted back on. so, you can't have fingernail clippers, which are pretty harmless, but you can have fire... good reasoning there. you know why they let them back on, for the same reasons zero said. people will light up as soon as they land and get off the plane. the tobacco companies didn't want not having a lighter or matches to hinder that.

I can't believe you just had to explain that to someone. Sometimes it mystifies me how little sense some people have.
Seriously.

Hook me up with a link to that story so i can shoot it down.

What you just said was "The tobacco companies called George Bush and told him to make airlines allow lighters and matches on airplanes so that people could get off the planes and smoke."

Was this before or after the aliens invaded Poland?

yeah, its called lobbying, it's what corporations and special interest groups do to politicians. and it was a successful lobby, because now you can carry those potentially dangerous items on board, where as before you couldn't. and i don't have a link because i read it in a newspaper. reading something off the net, you should look into it sometime

Oh gee, is that what it means? Golly. Now explain to me what "reading something off the net, you should look into it sometime" means, and before you even bother with that why don't you just tell me what paper you read it in so I can see if I can find the article ONLINE.

What are these "newspaper(s)" you speak of? Is that like a magazine?

If you're going to try and persuade me, you should definitely try harder than a Micheal Moore website.

A young man walks up to the table, introduces himself, and lowering his voice so no one can hear, tells me the following:

"I work on the Hill. The butane lighters were on the original list prepared by the FAA and sent to the White House for approval. The tobacco industry lobbied the Bush administration to have the lighters and matches removed from the banned list. Their customers (addicts) naturally are desperate to light up as soon as they land, and why should they be punished just so the skies can be safe?
A "young man"?? Ok.. Look what I can do:

A young man just walked up to me, introduced himself and told me that Strange Music is officially dropping Tech N9ne.

See how easy that was?
