I used to be able to choose, but I havent heard any of the newer artists. There is also alot of inconsistency with people... but I'm sure there are good reasons for it.

I hooked up my boy shao with Bigg Tupp from compton and their track "Rally" is off the hook.

For those who ain't knowin', check out my group Turf Grindaz. One of the most bangin' albums last year. The name of the album is called "Poundin' Tha Pavement". We've done a lot of shows last summer and we are even doing it bigger this year.

Our album has been bootlegged album over the world. Is this something to brag out. Yes. Cats don't bootleg wack music.

You can also check out my solo music. My group is working on a new album right now. We doing a track with Smigg Dirtee right now called "Macaroniz". We got a few surprises.

Don't sleep on the Turf Grindaz.

We gotta download 85% of NW albums, cuz nobody got their shit in an actual store or internet site, and practically everyone is on some "coming soon" shit.Im at southcenter mall every 2 weeks, and Neema is the only kat I've ever seen hustlin there.I been to shows where the artists don't even have his cd with him?the real work starts, when the recording stops, but a lot of "hustlers" don't seem to understand that.
What rappers really need is something like

Or at the very least, a BlueTooth credit card reader strapped to an Iphone or Blackberry.

It boggles my mind the amount of shows I've been to, and never seen a single artist that accepts Credit/Debit cards. Amazing. Call Mercury or PPI or someone. Step your game up.

More generally, rappers need to worry less about recouping expenses and look at their careers more liker starting a business.

When you start a business it's not uncommon to lose money for the first few years while you build up infrastructure, purchase necessary licenses, compete for market share/recognition, etc.

If I really thought I could make it as a rapper I would save up 20-30K and expect to blow ALL of that in the first couple years; riding on the belief that I would recoup those losses in years to come.

Press up 5,000 CDs and give them all away. Do shows for free. Pay to be on more popular artist CDs. Do appearances for free. Pay to do shows. Pay to have your song played on small time radio shows (unless you really want to spend on the major shows - all the better)

Spending a few thousand and trying to make it all back is focusing entirely on the short time worth no consideration of the long term IMO.

That is some real shit right there. Most wont go that route bekuz they want to keep the money out of the red as much as possible. Unlike a business, inconsistancy to me is a big thing, competition is always thick, and marketing is one of the biggest things. Its not that most have a following or fans or being out at the malls.... but besides online marketing (youtube, facebook, siccness, etc) its actually support from radio stations. I know some stations in the NW used to play local/underground artists a certain time/hour... also the dj's need to spin more for these artists.... and that coupled with shows would be good too... its really bad to see great talent NOT get they hardwork/skill pay off for them bekuz they are not getting pushed by people in the music entertainment industry.. even as "small" as being a club dj to being a "big" radio dj.

Infact, I'm kinda upset that many NW acts havent reached the mainstream or have big record deals...

I feel that. I know some rappers are lazy.. but i'm not talking just NW. It dont cost millions of dollars, but to many, still money is money.

and of course the dj's dont need to do anyone artist favors..even the radios dont need to play local artists... I'm saying there was a time when all that was pretty much available. Before the internet, how do would people found out about artists? if it wasnt in the source or any rap mag... it was word of mouth and play. Aint nothing wrong with hustlin your cd.. but some are not worth it.. and i've wasted money on some weak ass shit.

But times have changed, and now its easier to download a cd, instead of going out to the store and find that small stack of local cds at the store. Its how I found about FTS (one of my favorite cds outta the NW) Twomp O Six, POT... But that was chance bekuz I never heard of their music before.

I remember I heard a cool nutz song on the radio.. and I went to Sam goody and bought a few Jus Family albums. And I also remember when some djs would play their homey's music to help local acts out.

But I say that bekuz I hear the same songs on a few radio stations, multiple times in an hour, multiple times a day.(NW and Bay) And its why I slowly stop listening to the radio. Radio is key if you are heard. why you think Nipsey hussle and other West coast artists go to the east coast and fuck with the dj's and shows there? They get radio play... Not everyone, but a select few such as Jay rock, nipsey, stacee adams, the game.... the dj's there are more supportive.. and they carry that onto their shows... exposing their music, freestyles and interviews.

But this is rap I'm talking about.

There are stations that play local bands or non mainstream acts/songs that boost interest in that music genre (rock and trance).

Not to mention that no one wants to buy CDs anymore. Besides the hardcore music fans, or your friends, no one gives a fuck about a local rapper. Why? Because everybody raps now. And when 90% of the rap in Seattle is garbage, it doesn't bode well for the tight muhfuckas.

Shit it seems that most the people on this site is promoting their friends or family. Ain't really pushing actual tight rappers. Cats is buying CDs in the streets, I am the proof of that. My group is getting paid for shows, we get love from other regions, so thangz can happen if you have the total package.

Your album package has to be top notch, music has to be professional, lyrics on point, you got to have a mean sales rap to get muthaphukaz to check out your shit. And you have to have a real good stage presence and show performance.

Before anything artists in the northwest need to get a business sense. That is the first step before anything else can be accomplished. Some artists are not business people which is understandable. If that is the case get a team or someone who can handle those things for you. I say this for the artists who have the talent and are putting out good product not just any joe blow pressing cds in his bedroom.

I can say in the last month ive hollered at about 20 artists about getting their cds and i would say 17 either never holler back or say some shit like see me in the streets. What kind of answer is that? I mean as a no name independent artist you should take any inquiry about your music serious. For all an artist knows I could be a exectuive at a major label and you just hit me with some nonsense answer. These artists are just not knowing that alot of these so called A&R's at major labels have no idea what is good. They hit up websites/blogs looking for what is so called good. Alot of these artists you see getting deals have never ever even done a show! They strictly go on the strength of making a song thats a hit and get a deal after it takes off.

People say the music coming from the northwest is wack and dated but in reality it is on par with just about any other region. How many good albums are coming out in the south? west? east? not many from any region if you really think about it. At the same time those regions support their artists more than the northwest supports its artists, even if the artists are wack. Ive hit the west and south and since living in the northwest i dont feel people have pride in their local talent. They seem to be fans when they want to be, like the seahawks your a fan all of a sudden because they are winning, where were you when they were 4-12?

CD sales can be successful but an artist has to have their product more accessible, hit every show with product, if you put it in a store make sure you let it be known that it is avaliable at this store and this store, be willing to meet with someone locally or mail your music through mail orders. This region can be successful, it has a rich bed of talent people just have to get with the program!

ON ANOTHER NOTE CATS SHOULD MAYBE FIND A PUBLICIST OR A PROMOTER THATS LOOKING TO GET INTO THE RAP GAME... A LOT OF CATS WORRY ABOUT GETTING A MANAGER BUT THERE PURPOSE IS SO SMALL... A PUBLICIST WILL WORK THEY ASS OF TO GET YOUR NAME OUT THERE AND ON THESE BLOGS WHY? BECAUSE THATS WHAT YOU PAY THEM FOR. THERE NOT CHEAP BUT IF YOU HAVE THE INCOME TO AFFORD ONE GET ONE. THATS IF YOU FEEL YOUR MUSIC IS READY TO GO TO THE NEXT LEVEL.

Its why you gotta do your own research and find out who you want. Yeah, people want to get into music... and some people need to stay out of it.

Back in the 90's, before the internet had these sites, it was all chance. I've bought hella cds and tapes off of the cover and tracklisting. Even some shit just outta supporting underground artists that are at the malls.

Trial and error is still holds to this day.
