NoDQ.com > WWE > WWE lawyer comments on TNA Hardcore Justice
Posted by Roscoe De Soto on 08/06/2010 at 06:46 PM

Alfonso A. Castillo sent out the following regarding WWE Lawyer Jerry McDevitt’s comments on possible violations between TNA Wrestling and WWE, leading into this Sunday’s TNA Hardcore Justice PPV:

I just posted the following on Newsday’s Steel Cage wrestling blog at Newsday.com/steelcage

I reached out earlier to World Wrestling Entertainment attorney Jerry McDevitt to ask if WWE had already, or was considering, taking legal action against Total Nonstop Action Wrestling for TNA’s promoting of this Sunday’s “Hardcore Justice” pay per view.

The event is being hyped, in effect, as an ECW reunion, despite WWE owning the rights to the ECW name and intellectual property.

I received this reponse from McDevitt:

“The WWE is the sole owner of the ECW marks, and as with all of WWE’s intellectual property it will be vigorously protected. TNA acts at its peril if its infringes upon WWE’s rights.”

That can be taken to mean many things, but this much is apparent: TNA’s questionable usage of the ECW brand is on WWE’s legal radar. TNA could argue semantics and claim that they are not promoting an ECW reunion as much as a hardcore wrestling reunion, but that’s intellectually dishonest, at best.

TNA has done itself no favors by mentioning the E-C-W letters more than once on television in recent weeks, and featuring photos of past ECW events (photos presumably not owned by WWE.)

TNA President Dixie Carter may be excited about the buzz and small uptick in ratings that the “Hardcore Justice” concept has created. But you have to wonder how quickly that excitement will turn into terror if she is served with cease and desist papers hours before the pay per view is supposed to go live.

TNA is terrible, WWE doesnt even consider then competition. Most folks here don't even like Cena, ur the same moron that thought I was a 90's baby cuz I like WWE way more. i broke it down to you last time you went on a gay ass rant and what a surprise there was no response. TNA is so wack they are having a ppv for a bunch of wrestlers in there 40's cuz the younger talent can't cut the mustard.

edit: lol @ the main event being cancelled for hardcore justice cuz that old ass foo' Jerry Lynn has a back injury. What they expect, these dudes are almost on the same status as Bret Hart

I thought Jerry Lynn could wrestle his ass off but he always seemed stale character wise and never connected ha.
Looking forward to ordering this though as long as it happens....
I'm a mark for these 'hardcore' reunion type events. The first ECW invasion and "One Night Stand" WWE had- made me all giddy like a child reliving some life altering event ha.

The "One Night Stand" PPV... I wasn't in a situation in my life where I had cable... I went to my cousins house the day of and was like "yo I have to order this ppv". He's like "I have a show tonight dick, I thought you were coming.". (I used to do "roadie" type work for him and his band) "I'm going to be out tonight."

I was like... "Sorry I can't make it, just let me order the shit, here's the money up front, what the fuck do you think I'm going to do, wreck the place?"

I was actually a little bit stand-offish about it. LoL. But me and my girl watched that PPV and had a fucking blast. She'd never really seen an ECW show, and while it wasn't exactly ECW, it was at least similar in the important ways...

You know, in the way of "If you can't watch a match twice then it wasn't a good match"... To me, if you don't want to see something you loved so much come back again, then you never really loved it in the first place. I can't believe in my heart that Dreamer and the Dudley's would bring this shit back unless it was going to be the shit. I'm excited to see tonight's PPV. What comes of it, I guess we'll see...

IT WAS SO GOOD YOU CANT EVEN WATCH IT TWICE!

sounds like you really enjoyed it :ermm:

and your logic is flawed.... Just because you liked a wrestling company at one point it doesnt mean you need to dig up its corpse and rape it. I live in PA right near Philly I grew up on ECW and i love it to death. But seeing the people I grew up watching trying to half ass it in the ring is just sad.

LOL and you think dreamer or dudleys have any say in the matter? They work for TNA. If dixi says jump their response is "how high?"

I've tried really hard to be friendly with you... but your bullshit consistently pisses me off.
You constantly talk shit about me and call me gay.... so you really suck at being friendly

anyway....

what bullshit? Are you just upset because I am right? Go ahead tell me Im wrong, tell me TNA didnt dig up ECWs corpse to make a profit. Tell me Tommy and the Dudleys wont do what dixi tells them to do. tell me im wrong about them being too old to wrestle.

hell, I wouldnt have even responded to your post if it wasnt for:

"If you can't watch a match twice then it wasn't a good match"

when you said that you were pretty much asking me to respond.

I jokingly refer to your affection towards Japanese wrestling... And when did it become an insult to call a gay guy "gay"? If all I posted was Japanese FEMALE wrestling, then I'd be open to people saying "Go to a fap website to get your jap fetish porn."

what bullshit? Are you just upset because I am right? Go ahead tell me Im wrong, tell me TNA didnt dig up ECWs corpse to make a profit. Tell me Tommy and the Dudleys wont do what dixi tells them to do. tell me im wrong about them being too old to wrestle.
You're wrong.

Anything TNA does is to make a profit. If the general public gave a fuck about Japanese wrestling, then they'd be doing a Jap wrestling ppv. When did it become a fault for a company to give fans what they want to see? The ratings have been up... It's in the best interest of a company to PROFIT.

If anyone is following Dixies "orders", it's because she's the fucking boss.

I don't know what you do for a living, but I'm sure it involves creating profit and most likely involves answering to a higher-up. Or do you guys give shit away for free?

And "too old to wrestle"... I guess we'll see. I dunno man, I'd rather see what's up now than watch old tapes. And this is a point I've been pretty nice on too. All you do is watch old shit, or new shit nobody else cares about. For that reason alone, your opinions on current shit is... not invalid... but skewed so hard to the negative side that it doesn't really register as valid to me.

If you take my referencing other posts personally, then so be it. I used "If you can't watch a match twice..." as a reference. If I was using it as an attack of some sort, I wouldn't be shady about it. Trust me, I'll use your name when I want to attack you.

You just agreed with me...

I am right tna is doing it to make a profit and I am right everyone does what dixi says. Im glad you agree

which is better than you "Tommy dreamer wont stand for it" nonsense

too old too wrestle... didnt dreamer hurt himself during the first run in with ecw on TNA and didnt lynn just throw out his back or something?

all I do is watch old tapes... and new ones? so what you are telling me is I watch everything? Im sorry that i watch everything to see whats good? :ermm:

as far as jap wrestling goes I am just trying to get you guys into something else besides the same shit you see on TV every week.

My opinion isnt skewed yours is. I watch TNA and WWE. I am very critical about TNA because there is a lot to be critical of. Your opinion on PURO means nothing since you refuse to watch any of the matches and tell me what you didnt like about them. I just posted a new match from a late last month. if you watch it all and tell me why you didnt like it Ill never bring this subject up to you again

and if you quote something I said then yes I will take note of that and respond.

How can I disagree with such an obvious statement? You didn't just blow everyone's mind to the fact that TNA is trying to make money. So is WWE, so is ROH, so is any Japanese outfit.

You're putting words into my mouth to act like you've proven some point of yours. I never said that Tommy Dreamer now runs TNA and he's got the clout to hire/fire people. Do I believe Dreamer is setting up pretty much the entire PPV? Yes. Do I believe that Dixie Carter is the boss of the company? Yeah.

If that somehow proves your point than so be it. Enjoy that worthless victory.
too old too wrestle... didnt dreamer hurt himself during the first run in with ecw on TNA and didnt lynn just throw out his back or something?
Hasn't HHH been on the dl for close to a year now? Wasn't John Cena out at least a couple of times from injury? Melina just came back from an injury, I guess she's too old to wrestle, so maybe she should just hang up the boots.

Undertaker and HBK had MOTY two years in a row... Both being "too old to wrestle". Foley put on shows that kicked you in the dick while "too old to wrestle".

I don't subscribe to that way of thinking.

You're not winning any arguments here, sir. I don't care how new your Puro posts are... I still don't care about them. Could the matches be good? Sure. But I don't have too much interest in watching strange men pretend to fight well. We've gone over it.

My main concern is you trashing both major companies like an armchair Vince McMahon and criticizing us common folk for enjoying at least most of it. You're like a teenager that thinks he's "in the know" and his shit is super cool because he's the only person besides a very small amount of others who knows about it. You fight people on most, if not all, well known wrestling entertainment as if you were a huge underground rock/rap fan speaking about commercial radio.

I have Jap hardcore dvd's. Well one at least. You're beating a dead fuckin' horse. An episodic wrestling program is way more interesting to me than watching the same matches over and over and over, just like any sitcom would be. I love season one Family Guy, but wouldn't put the dvd on and watch that while a new episode was playing on Fox.

I see by your profile that you're 23... Stop letting your possessions define you as a person. You should have let that shit go by the time you were 18-19. It's cool that you like older shit, or more obscure shit, (and btw, being 23, I don't know how you can claim you were watching ECW in Philly) but just say "fuck it".

I'm not much older, but I learned a long time ago to not give a fuck. TNA, WWE... Why not like them both for what they are? If you don't get hyped to see "old" stars then that's your problem. You're watching a product to see 60 minute draws and shit. I'm watching to see old friends. I don't give a fuck.

I only shit on TNA because it is a terrible product. no one is criticizing you common folk.... I only criticize people who talk poorly on a product without ever watching it as you do.

The reason I am in the minority is because of people like you who refuse to give something different a chance.

what does one hardcore jap dvd have to do with anything?

Who said watch the same matches again and again and nothing new? I said I was trying to get you guys into something else besides the same wrestling bullshit you see every week.

How does my love of wrestling define who I am? You only see that side of me because we are talking about wrestling.

where did I say I was watching ECW in philly? Im just saying that growing watching on tv and it being a big kinda home town feeling fills me with a lot of pride when talking about ecw

anyway...i have seen it live.

I have been a fan of wrestling since i was 7 or 8. I will always have an extreme love and passion for it like anyone would if they were really into it. Your comic book nerds love their comics Im a wrestling nerd.

why not like them for what they are? Thats the kinda attitude that makes wrestling what it is today.

You dont have to sit back and watch the same shit every week. watch PWG watch ROH watch Chikira. even if you cant watch them on TV look them up on line. go see their shows when they come to your town.

WWE knows whats up thats why they grabbed danielson, Lowki, Tyler Black

Thats why I pimp jap wrestling so much... if you give it a chance you might just like it. I started out watching american wrestling and it wasnt till I was 17 that I saw my first really big Puro match with Misawa and it just changed my opinion on wrestling forever.

Look Im done arguing with you. we both have our own opinions and we will never see eye to eye really what it comes down to is this.... If you dont like me or my opinions please.... PLEASE! put me on ignore

To me, if you don't want to see something you loved so much come back again, then you never really loved it in the first place.
I'm not Ok with that i'm a big Mike Tyson fan but i don't want to see him comeback at 40 and watch him get a ass whooping against a 3rd rate boxer.

It goes for everybody, Ric Flair retired at Mania 24, got some big ass farewell the next night at Raw and now he's wrestling at some trailor park what the fuck is that ?

this is how you ruining a Legacy.
