A 61-year-old man was jailed Saturday afternoon after he allegedly shot a man who aggressively begged for money outside a McDonald's in downtown Everett, according to Everett police.
The alleged shooter lives in Marysville and was a regular customer at the restaurant in the 2000 block of Everett Avenue. Police said he was asked for money on his way in just before 11:30 a.m., then went inside and ordered something to drink, and on his way out he was panhandled again.
The beggar, a 41-year-old man carrying Kentucky identification, followed the Marysville man to his small pickup. The older man grabbed a handgun and fired one shot into the beggar's abdomen, police said.
The Marysville man stayed at the scene and then was interviewed by detectives at a police station. Officers "were not satisfied this was self-defense," and booked him into jail for investigation of first-degree assault, said police Sgt. Robert Goetz.
The shooting victim was in surgery Saturday afternoon and was in serious condition, Goetz said.
Several people were in the McDonald's but didn't stay long enough to give witness statements. Everett police ask that they call a tip line at 425-257-8450.
The pickup has been impounded.

Instead of throwing it away they could have gave him a quarter pounder and a big mac or something and the dude didn't have to beg for money and probably would get shot.

But he probably would have begged for money after the food anyway so that doesn't really matter as well I think now.

It's a bit extreme to shoot the guy over it anyway I think....

why would they give something away free that they charge everybody else for, bums are no better than anybody else. and why would they give a bum an opportunity to get food poisoning (giving them expired food) and sue the holy hell out of them? in fact i believe mcdonalds pours bleach on the food they throw away for this very reason

i would stop going to a fast food restaurant for the rest of my life if i knew they gave bums free food

lol cold, but then again why would people with money and a living get butt hurt over a bum who takes a free leftover burger, and still has to sleep in the streets with rats up their ass anyways...

Most of the beggars I've seen outside of restaurants don't look like they're hungry, they look geeked out... It's all part of their hustle... I'm not justifying what dude did, but at the same time if I felt threatened by a dope-head (not saying he was)... I would shoot...

Dude getting shot was over the line unless the shooter felt threatend which doesn't seem to be the case.

Bums/homeless in America is a touchy subject in my opinion. There are good ones out that fell on hardtimes, there are bat shit crazy ones, and then there are druggies/alcoholics. Sometimes one person can be all three. I don't judge them but I don't give them cash ever anymore. I'll buy them a burger or a sandwich or something. I figure if they give it to some other bum for drugs or booze at least then someone is eating it. I rarely do that anymore though either. Seattle has so many bums everywhere that after awhile you are kind of just like "fuck off" to all of them.
