^ you can use it with an M-Audio interface... the fast track USB is only 99.99 on Sweetwater.com... and like Kavie said you can use it with many different apps (Sonar, Cubase, Sampltiude, Live, Reaper, Audition, Acid, Soundforge...ect) until you find the program(s) that's right for you...

...but yeah, from personal experience - anything Pro Tools that is less than HD can be limiting... just the fact that they intentionally cripple their LE and M-Powered platforms (i.e. stripping them of delay compensation, OMF support and imposing artificial track limitations) is more than enough for me to avoid 'em.. but I've heard rumors that Digi is gonna change their buisiness practices soon ... but I'm not holding my breath...

I like my M-Audio Fast Track Pro. $200 new. 2 XLR/TRS combo inputs, 2 balanced 1/4" TRS outputs, 4 unbalanced RCA outputs, 1/4" TRS insert jacks, MIDI I/O, S/PDIF I/O, headphones jack, and its bus-powered. Works with everything. Haven't had a complaint about it since I got it (6 months ago).

I'm sure someone else may be able to recommend something better than this though.

^^^ thats the way to go. thats what i use and it's the shit.

ive never had any problems with recording on usb interfaces...
I've been recording with USB interfaces (Fast Track Pro and the MobilePre before that) and the shit works great. Firewire is a better way to go, but there is no problem with recording through a USB interface.

yeah, well

i dont want to use usb

maybe ill get one of those ... damn i cant remember the name

but ima keep it digital
M-Audio has some Firewire options if that's the way you want to go.

well i had gotten it for my boy off audionews.ru and it was perfectly running with his m audio interface no problem.....
You came across a good copy then. All the ones I found wouldn't work without the iLok. I was a great way to upgrade though if you had the original and needed to upgrade.

Fire wire is just another means of connection similar to usb with more speed. I use a tascam fw 1082 as a audio interface and I love it never had any problem. Its only 600$ for a tascam fw 1082. with 4 xlr inputs(with fantom power), 8 line ins, 2 inserts, 2 midi ins, 2 midi outs, plus its a control surface. I love the damn thing tho. Im really thinking of buying the tascam fw 1884....

I have the Fast Track Pro. The Fast Track Ultra is a nice one, but it should be enough for you; two inputs, four outputs, and MIDI I/O is the basics of what you'd need. If you need more than one or two inputs then you can go with the Ultra (though running your devices through a mixer, if you already have one or can find one, can work just fine). I'm not sure about the DSP feature on the Ultra, but it might be something someone else can enlighten you (and me) on.

Yes, it should work fine for you. You have MIDI In and Out (which you'll only need one of each for your Motif), you have XLR/TRS combo inputs for your Motif's outs to be connected to, and you have TRS and RCA output to connect your monitors to.
