WHEN YOU SEE MOVIE COMMERCIALS DO YOU RUN TO KAZAA & WATCH THA MOVIE BEFORE YOU GO SEE IT IN THA THEATRE? MAJORITY OF PEOPLE TAKE THA RISK OR ASK A FREIND HOW IT WAS .....NOT DOWNLOAD IT 1ST.MUSIC SHOULD BE THA SAME I.M.O. - 1MORE THING ABOUT DOWNLOADING...I SPEND ALOT OF $ MIXING DOWN @ THA GRILL TO MAKE SURE MY SHIT IS A-1 QAULITY(ANYONE who BOUGHT my C.D. CAN TELL YOU THIS) BY DOWNLOADING,YOU BASICALLY ELIMINATE THAT QAULITY&CRISP SOUND THAT I LIKE MY ALBUMS TO HAVE.DOES A QUALITY MIX MEAN ANYTHING TO FANZ?
People USED TO be willing to take chances on buying albums they haven't heard but that was before the market got flooded with GARBAGE, the ridiculous amounts of recycled material, and before they had any alternatives. People taking a chance on your music was a PRIVILEDGE and some people are probably still willing to do it. Regardless, it was NEVER something that fans owe artists!
Do people appreciate good mixes? I think most do and most are willing to buy albums they feel are worth their hard-earned cash. Hopefully they EXPECT quality work in exchange for it.
Look man, you can fight the shit all you want but things have changed, period. You can sit here pissing your pants and being all upset over it, or you can find a way to use it to your advantage. People are tired of being ripped off on cd's that they can't return for a refund if they think the music is some bullshit. Consumers have found a way around that. Naturally some will take advantage of that but tons of people just use MP3's as a way to protect themselves from getting suckered over & over again.
As a senior executive, I see opportunity. When doors close, new ones ALWAYS open. You just need to have the vision to see those opportunities and the creativity to act on them.
As a producer, song-writer & musician, I'm not intimidated by mp3's because people will always be looking for hot tracks and I make sure I see my money (or most of it) right from go. Neither will change.
The music industry isn't going down the drain, it's simply changing. The way people communicate is changing therefore the way people do business is changing. There are still millions and millions of people who buy music and the industry is still a mutli-billion dollar-a-year business. There's two choices. You can either find a way to change with it or start getting your resume ready. I'm sure McDonald's is always hiring.
