No I'm not a mod..haha, and this is an ongoing dialog between me and booboo, i was hard on him, but it wasn't meant to be disrespectful, a little on the clowning side, but as a person who is trying to perfect a craft he knows what i said has some validity, I think sometimes you need a balance when it comes to criticism, too many people are extra nice, and I hope by doing it the way i did he does not take it to heart but challenges himself to do things different.
My beat..that was..well maybe it took 10 minutes, and yes that synth was too loud, I wouldnt even keep that in the beat i just put that in there to demonstrate a sound I customized on my proteus 2000. I have an MPC 3000 so I started of with a 4 bar loop used quantize to do hi hats..then put the kick and snare on another track , then put shaker on another track.so that took a little over a minute. Then I used a piano from my motif and a bass from my Jp8000 and stacked them and recorded in one pass..about 1 minute. I then turned that 4 bars into 8bars by a few preses of buttons on the mpc. I then put a little pad between the 6th bar and 8th from My Korg wavestation. about another minute or so...then i put a synth called pulsewound from motif that continually plays through out 8 bars....then a sound from my studio electronics ATC, and then that bubbly synth from my proteus 2000...I didnt set out to make a beat just a lil loop to groove to but that didnt sound well..just a demonstration.....I Didnt EQ, or use any eefects just out the keyboards and mpc into a mixer which i route the outs into a CD recorder...sounds like alot but not really...Oh when I pressed record on the cd recorder I hit the tamborine and snare before pressing play on the beat....
oh aight, good shit...how long you been doin beats?

Is this G Funk enough for ya? a lil something i made ya know a 5 minute beat.....dedicated to you.
http://www.zshare.net/audio/4454467b3f7ac8/
That beat ain't bad 50Cal. You know I like your $hit, but this ain't even close to being your best shit. Where's the bassline at?!?!?! You need a PHAT bassline inorder to make it offical G-Funk, dog. It needs more BOUNCE. It's still cool though, I like the leads, except that hard panned synth to the right kinda hurts my ears in the headphones.

It's funny, how peeps here think you got something personal against me. I know your only clownin. Just give me some time.

Anyways I just made a lil loop..i just stated G.Funk cause you always talk about G funk beats..I didnt even notice that shit was panned..haha you right..i didnt mix it down just rough levels and my mixer probably has the pan in the R position...but that lead at the end I was gonna do a funky solo, but I should have used a different sound, cause i was trying to let ya hear it bubble..and ya right i didnt put a bassline in there....just makin a lil something on the spot to put up...

I know you only do it for fun. I do too, but to say your not good, cmon you have A LOT of potential. I know your just fucking around when you make these beats, but imagine if you actually did put more time in them. Your actually one of the better "beatmakers" I've heard. You actually got that "oldschool" sound down, unlike so many these days. That Oldschool, soul, G-Funk shit is harder to make, that's why producers these days don't do it IMO. They don't got the skill. They take the easy way out and let them arpeggio/trance gates do the the rhythms for them, such as Dirty South/Hyphy beats. :ermm: Like that video you have in your sig, now that's some soul, you just don't hear these days, unfortunately.

And as far as me always talking about G-funk, yeah I do because that's my favorite form of Hiphop. It has SOUL, unlike all the shit these days. Unfortunately, I just don't got the complete touch for it. Most of my beats end up sounding too RnB-ish if I try. I think most of my beats end up sounding too dramatic & uptempo, so they end up more RnB-ish.

Check out this new beat of mine. Definitely chill and very atmospherical. I think it's more RnB than anything, but I like it. I think I excel better at making these beats.

Lately I've come up with a formula for making beats that must include:
Strings or Synth Pad
Acoustic Piano/Guitar/Electric Guitar & or Electric Piano/Synthesized Guitar
Bass - Synth or Electric Bass (prefer E. Bass, I like that deep round sound)
Lead synth

You've got that completely backwards so I hope you're kidding.
I'm not kidding. The Hiphop you hear these days has NO SOUL. Most of the synth's rhythms these days are driven by Arpeggio, Trance Gates, and what not. Hiphop these days is following the path of electronic Dance music such as Trance & House. The only positive thing I can say about Hiphop these days is that it's more Original. But that doesn't mean it has SOUL. That's all I'm saying is that it's lacking soul. I just don't hear it in the melodies.

Here you go, I just whipped up a CLUB BEAT.

You can't tell me this has more SOUL, than G-Funk or anything of that sort.

http://www.zshare.net/audio/4481133ff1b68f/

It's probably good for what it is, but to be honest, I didn't feel any SOUL in making it. The synths did most of the work for me. It's just too fast to fit any kind of soul into it. This is today's hiphop, DIGITAL Hiphop. Yeah it's fast, full of rhythm, can make you dance and bob your head. But I personally prefer some REAL shit, piano, guitar,etc... Today it's a battle of who has the hardest drum kicks, phattest, craziest synths. Whatever, it's the new vibe, I guess. Can't hate it because it does work. Bottom line it makes people dance. Regardless, it still ain't my cup of tea.

50Cal, I want to hear you make a Newschool Club Beat like this. CMON, make one. Everyone is doing it. lol BTW, don't forget to put on your stunna shades and throw on your hyphy sweater before making it. lol

I agree, and people can say we need to move on but what put westcoast rap on the map? why is rap not a factor?

yeah i heard it , its not bad, i just do not like them type of beats at all.

haha, I know. Me either, but I did it to prove a point, that it don't take no SOUL or major effort to make those types of Club beats. On the other hand, G-Funk, RnB and other shit of that nature, it does take SOUL and effort. You actually need skill in the fingers/good rhythm to make it and a good sense and understanding of what Jazz, Funk is. Not anyone can bang out on the keys like that video in your sig.

what's wrong with the bass and drum sounds? bass is nice and realistic, kick is nice and punchy and they fit well together.

why do you say you got a better chance of making money if you stick to some real funky shit? isn't it usually "sell your soul and make quick money with a new crappy generic beat"?

Ok, but that's not what my comment was about. You said you think people don't do more soul and g-funk because it's harder to make. I totally disagree on both counts. I guess you could debate whether or not it's hard to make since that is relative to the person trying to make it. For me soul, funk, jazz, and r&b are nothing to play. Then again I grew up on that music and have been playing instruments since before I was in school. But people aren't making that kind of rap anymore because things have evolved & moved on.

I don't mind that people are trying new things and experimenting in rap. That's how new trends are born and since it's a business, .....

The bass is killing the whole song..listen to the beginning..it sounds pretty good, but the bass throws it off, not just the patch but the melody as well, I do like the other elements and there is plenty good to build to....drums arent bad but hear the reverb on the snare? and the kik being punchy..do you want that ..listen to the vibe of the song..its mellow but the drums sound like they belong with something else, and I am no expert at drums neither, My boy has sounds upon sounds loaded in his 4000 and he will have some drums that will snap the back of your neck off, but he will keep searching till he finds the right kick and snare, to make sure shits all in tune, i just pick any drums and build...And I meant he has a better chance of selling some R&B beats not funky beats or rap beats

Well I used my headphones, it's kind of hard to tell the punch of the kick. I don't think it's too hard though. I honestly don't like weak kicks. It's not that mellow of song. The strings going in and out give it some aggression I think, also the faster tempo, the lead gives it a bit of aggression as well IMO. What's wrong with the snare/clap? I think the reverb tail adds some nice atmospherical flavor to the drum beat. Bassline could have probably been longer, but I think it works regardless, it follows the vibe and rest of the song I think. I didn't want to go too nuts on the bassline, keep it simpler. I prefer to use longer sustained notes with basslines, with songs like this, rather than shorter, faster, funkier notes. I think the bass patch fits well, it's a deeper electric bass. I was going more for a realistic sound, rather than synth bass sound.

BTW, I ain't looking to sell anything. Just doing it for fun.
