The problem with these software vs hardware threads you make is, you always pick videos where the dudes using software are wack. Clearly, the dudes using hardware in these videos simply make better music than the ones using software. Its not about what theyre using. Not to mention the dudes using software in these videos are using cheesy ass sounds.

lol, yeah you always pick some shitty ass examples for the software dudes, 50Cal. haha

It's obviously those 2 hardware examples actually know what their doing, "musically." That dude EP got mad skills, he definitely knows how to get the FUNK out of that synth lead. I miss that WestCoast shit. I hope that shit comes back, God dammnit.

Seriously though, it's not like you can't do that with a software synth. Arturia Minimoog or Minimonsta can create sounds like that. It just takes some skill and good rhythm to make funky shit like that. It's not the software, it's just the user. Those software dudes just ain't putting no soul into it.

Bout fucking time 50Cal, thanks for these. Never seen these. Dude gets down. Fuck I love that G-Funk shit. Those funky synth lead lines are so hypnotic. This fool is not even from the USA either, he's Italian, lol, what a shame, he has better taste than most here. Some good porno music in that first vid. lol love that jazz.

That's the kind of $hit the WestCoast is missing these days. Motherfuckers have wack ass taste in beats these days, I don't understand.

BTW, From the looks of it, looks like he was using Novation Bass Station VSTi for either the leads or bass synth. Pretty damn good synth, I have it, just can't make my shit bounce that much yet. I think it's all in the drumbeat too, you need some hard ass hitting drums to get that vibe going. His drumbeats sounded simple, but highly effective. That's all you need.

drums was cool, your problem is the way you hit the keys is almost robotic like you quantize your bass lines..

Yeah I know. I only do that because when I record, sometimes my shit starts off delayed or all of it is slightly delayed. I'm using low latency ASIO drivers as well. Could be just the way I'm playing or something, maybe need to be slightly faster or something. I do need to lay off that quantize though, probably better to just fix it by hand.

Tell me what you think about this beat I made not too long ago. I think I got the FUNK down in this one:

Do i have to?..ahaha..well lets be truthful...if the scale was between 1 and 10.....maybe a 2..its would be easier for me to say what i liked as opposed to what i didnt...I thought those background strings or whatever sounded O.K. the rest....anyways dont ever show anybody that beat again, you will lose all credibility and the title of beatmaker will be taken away from you hahA..

I seriously want to know what's so bad about it. It's actually a chilled out beat, if you think it's THAT BAD, you obviously have no taste in real music. It's not like the instruments are out of tune or off beat n shit. You make it seem like I was trying to brag that this is my best beat or best beat in the world or something, I was just trying to show that I got funky with that lead synth, using "software." I personally think that lead solo part sounds good for the vibe I was trying to get at. Your funny dude, always trying to clown.

All Im saying is your beats are somewhat predictable, not so much that you can predict what kind of melody, but more so on what beat each note will fall on. reminds me when I listen to some chicano rap...example fill in the blank..

I place my head to the sky
My girl Im gonna.........................

answer....Love her til the day that I die.....

as far as funky leads...listen to the video in my sig..now thats funky..not just the sounds but how he strikes the keys somewhat rythmic.

Yeah I see what your saying and that's because like I mentioned, sometimes when I record my shit, it comes out Delayed and I have to quantise to fix it better or fix it manually by hand in the piano roll. I'm using law latency ASIO drivers also, but it still comes out slightly delayed sometimes and I get lazy to re-record till it comes out right, so I just quanitize or try to fix by hand. Or sometimes I have trouble re-creating something I just created on the fly and just go with that first instance.

BTW, here's a Chicano beat I made, lol:

damn dawg you went way too hard on dude...arent you mod here? You shouldn't be discouraging cats. The beat wasn't that badd. Wasn't the greatest, but it wasn't a 2. Do you feel better about your production by saying other's arent any good? i'd say it's around a 4-5, there's MUCH MUCH worse...check out that young joc track on kdon...that's a 2.

as far as your track goes...Props, shit's hard hittin. If I heard it on a cd, it'd more than likeley be one of my favorites off the cd...the synth that comes in at .23 is a bit too loud in the mix IMO, other than that, nice rip. I have a hard time believing you made this in 5 minutes though. If so, I'd like to see some beat-making videos from you, to see your workflow it takes me sometimes hours to make a proper beat, never made something cd-worthy in 5 minutes.

No I'm not a mod..haha, and this is an ongoing dialog between me and booboo, i was hard on him, but it wasn't meant to be disrespectful, a little on the clowning side, but as a person who is trying to perfect a craft he knows what i said has some validity, I think sometimes you need a balance when it comes to criticism, too many people are extra nice, and I hope by doing it the way i did he does not take it to heart but challenges himself to do things different.
My beat..that was..well maybe it took 10 minutes, and yes that synth was too loud, I wouldnt even keep that in the beat i just put that in there to demonstrate a sound I customized on my proteus 2000. I have an MPC 3000 so I started of with a 4 bar loop used quantize to do hi hats..then put the kick and snare on another track , then put shaker on another track.so that took a little over a minute. Then I used a piano from my motif and a bass from my Jp8000 and stacked them and recorded in one pass..about 1 minute. I then turned that 4 bars into 8bars by a few preses of buttons on the mpc. I then put a little pad between the 6th bar and 8th from My Korg wavestation. about another minute or so...then i put a synth called pulsewound from motif that continually plays through out 8 bars....then a sound from my studio electronics ATC, and then that bubbly synth from my proteus 2000...I didnt set out to make a beat just a lil loop to groove to but that didnt sound well..just a demonstration.....I Didnt EQ, or use any eefects just out the keyboards and mpc into a mixer which i route the outs into a CD recorder...sounds like alot but not really...Oh when I pressed record on the cd recorder I hit the tamborine and snare before pressing play on the beat....

lol come on its obvious now 50 cal just likes to clown on software. i understand though. i love hardware beats, nothing will ever beat the real thing. but i dont think people should automatically clown on something. it's not what you got but how you use it. i mean shit, i know kids who are learning how to use an mpc, you can't automatically call those beats better than any fl studio beat.

hardware does have a lot better sounds than software, but think about it. if you spent just as much money on software, you could buy the newest vstis that recorded every single note of old synthesizers. i still think the hardware would sound better, you just can't recreate it digitally, even if you recorded every single note for every single voice.

booboo, I hate that so much about MIDI. Stupid delay. I have the ASIO4ALL drivers too and it doesn't help. But I just heard that you can use the Serato SL1 box, which I just got this month as an ASIO soundcard, so hopefully I'll have no more delay, even though it'll mean unplugging it a lot and possibly messing up RCA jacks, on the DJ mixer, or worse, the SL1 box.
