What were the reasons we wanted WMDs?

(1) To protect Americans by finding a major, modern, sophisticated stash of WMDs
(2) To prove links to Al Qaeda

All they found was 19 year old mustard gas and shit that didn't work. No threat to Americans. No link to Al Qaeda.

They were looking for nuclear missiles and shit like that. They already knew about this.
If this was such a big deal, how come Republicans never used it to prove they were right? Because there is absolutely nothing new in that Wikileaks dump. This is all old info that does not justify the war in ANY WAY.

This is only important if you classify that shit as Weapons of Mass Destruction. Those were not the WMDs we were looking for. Not even sure you can fairly call them WMDs. What they found is stuff that nearly every country in the world has. If 20 year old weapons are a good excuse to invade an entire country, we might as well just go invade the other 160 countries that have that shit too...

from bush: the Iraq regime continues to possess and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised…. Under [UN] Resolutions 678 and 687 — both still in effect — the United States and our allies are authorized to use force in ridding Iraq of weapons of mass destruction.

again: In one year, or five years, the power of Iraq to inflict harm on all free nations would be multiplied many times over.

again: I would remind you that when the inspectors first went into Iraq and were denied, finally denied access, a report came out of the Atomic — the IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency] — that they were six months away from developing a weapon. I don’t know what more evidence we need.

cheney: On March 16, 2003, Cheney announced on NBC’s Meet the Press that “we believe [Saddam] has, in fact, reconstituted nuclear weapons.”

so they claimed that he possessed nukes and/or was at least working on them

didn't provide any evidence of that, obviously, because saddam wasn't doing any of that

Let's not forget during the state of the union he said this: The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.

and when it turned out it was a blatantly forged document, they never even took it back or corrected it
I'm not defending the crooked Bush administration.

Mustard Gas instantly kills people, Saddam had mustard gas missiles

That would classify under WMD for me, and a good reason to get that moron out of Iraqi power. That's why Albania, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Poland, Romania, South Korea, and the United Kingdom all contributed to the invasion. For a safer world.

all the countries you just named Timm, they all are lookin to gain more power in the UN, they would kiss ass to any of the P5+1 so they can get a foot in edge wise and make more money for their own corrupt officials

fuck the UN, fuck politics

The UN and the US would never allow us to go find old stockpiles of mustard gas from 1991. You think if Sadam wanted to kill millions of people, he would go find 19 year old weapons that didn't work and pull them out of some deteriorated pit in the ground? They had old chemical laboratories. My thirteen year old cousin has an old chemical laboratory.

The Bush Administration said that Sadam was purchasing yellow cake uranium from Africa and working closely with Al Qaeda so that he could create nuclear warheads and destroy the human race. That's a little bit different than buried 19 year old stockpiles of mustard gas.

The Admin said that it was based on a report from the atomic energy commission. Except that the commission stated that they never released any such report and it was forged. So then we go into Iraq and low and behold, he find absolutely no signs of nuclear warheads aka "Weapons of Mass Destruction". Aka this was a big fucking lie.

Everyone and their mama knew about these stockpiles. When we realized that they weren't destroyed, it's not like they were highly touted as the WMDs that we were looking for. If we claimed that, the UN would have our asses (though they have no power). This isn't big news at all.

Look at the countries you just named. THREE of them are not third world countries: Australia, the UK and Denmark. All three of them are our buddies, would never break with us, kiss our asses, and we do the same to them. And the PEOPLE in those three countries protested as much as we did. South Korea is a legit country too, but we keep them safe from North Korea. The rest of the countries you named are fucking shit in the world scene.

We were lied to so we could go to war. Period. WMD apologists are up there with Holocaust deniers in my book...

the democrats were pro Iraq in 2003, the democrat votes were the reason that the invasion was made possible. Do some research on "Bush's War". We had been planning to invade Iraq ever since the late 80's and especially after desert storm in the early 90's.
Several Democrats were outspokenly against the war.. one of the most outspoken paid the ultimate price, along with his wife and one of his kids. He was my Senator, and he was one of the greatest Senators this country has ever seen. If you don't know who I speak of, then fuck off and do your own research.

Your 1 senator's vote didn't stand because the majority of his party voted to invade iraq. Just because some dems were against it doesn't mean the party majority wasn't. There were Republicans against the invasion as well. It's the majority that gets to decide
