The Callahan thing was obviously a hilarious joke. I saw hes like the o-line coach somewhere now.. fucking piece of shit.
I'm kind of surprised that McKenzie is looking at so many coaches. Some short list.
Whoever it ends up being, we all know that he will get no love from the fans if he doesn't go 8-8 or better. We are fucking tired of this shit. To watch the Raiders lose that Superbowl and not reach the playoffs since... I fucking graduated high school, served 6 years in the Navy and am now on my second semester of college and still no playoff game... Meanwhile the Cheatriots win 3 and appear in 4... fuck that.

of course I was joking about callahan, neither him or gruden should come back to be head coach.

gruden didn't build that team, al did and al ran the defense back then too. if you want to know what a team ran by gruden looks like, just look at tampa the last few years he was there. he got to do whatever he wanted after winning the super bowl and he took that team to the shitter. eventually getting himself fired for it.

People see announcers and think they are automatically awesome. Nothing but talking heads. Corporate NFL is fucking lame.
That's why us Raider fans loved Al Davis. He told the Commish to go fuck himself. Constantly.
I hope Amy Trask continues the tradition as she already did by being the only team rep. to vote against the CBA.

Goodell is the worst Commish yet.

Philbin hire puts pressure on Raiders

OK, so go ahead and scratch not only one, but two and possibly three names off new Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie's head coaching candidate "short list."

And while you're at it, throw some urgency not only on the Raiders' coaching search, but on the ensuing assistant scramble as well. Joe Philbin and Todd Bowles were both linked to the Raiders' vacancy, with Bowles reportedly interviewing with McKenzie last Friday.

Then there's the curious case of Denver offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, who turned down a chance to interview with McKenzie on Friday in order to fly cross-country for a second interview with Miami. McCoy, who is from Novato, reportedly felt he was the front-runner on Thursday.

But with the Dolphins job now gone, might he try to get back in the Raiders' search? Probably not.

Speculation will run rampant that Philbin is going to fill his staff with fellow former Packers assistants, you know, the same guys purportedly set to come to Oakland when McKenzie hires a coach (Winston Moss, anyone?).

In fact, Packers safeties coach Darren Perry, another name linked to the Raiders, has already been mentioned as a potential defensive coordinator in Miami.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia offensive coordinator Marty Mornhingweg reportedly interviewed for the Raiders job today in Oakland. He would be the third candidate to actually have had an interview, along with Bowles and Denver defensive coordinator Dennis Allen.

The Raiders have made no comments about the search and have not returned messages seeking comment, though they did deny a tweet earlier on Friday that Sean Jones had been hired as McKenzie's assistant GM.

What if McKenzie hired Gruden on 'Tuck' anniversary?

I'm not suggesting this is a possibility. Not even a remote one.

But how much good karma would be released in the streets of Silver and Blackdom if new Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie did the unfathomable today, on this, the 10th anniversary of the history-turning event known as the Tuck Rule Game?

Appear out of the mist with Jon Gruden at his side and announce that Chucky was indeed coming home to the Black Hole. Ten years to the day after he coached his final game for the Raiders in the New England snow. Ten years to the day the Patriots dynasty was born out of a ridiculous rule. Ten years to the day the Raiders' descent into the abyss began.

[REWIND: Remembering the Tuck Rule game]
Since that day, the Patriots are 137-42, with three Super Bowl titles and a SpyGate video-taping scandal that left no real marks; the Raiders are 56-104 and searching for their eighth head coach.

McKenzie said he wants "my guy" in the coaching chair. Fair enough. And Gruden recently re-upped with ESPN for five more years to call Monday Night Football games from the broadcast booth.

So it's not going to happen. Not today anyway, which would make the past 10 mostly-miserable years seem like a bad dream.

But in true old school Raiders clock and dagger fashion -- sources within Raiders headquarters say the silence is deafening and no one in there has any real idea about the new G.M.'s plans -- McKenzie's "short list" has grown upwards of 11 names. Still he has reportedly only interviewed two for the gig in former Miami interim coach Todd Bowles and Denver defensive coordinator Dennis Allen.

So while a grass roots movement in the form of an online petition to let McKenzie know the fans wants Gruden back has begun in Raider Nation, McKenzie's search has taken him to lower-profile coaches. Much lower profile. Which is a shame.

Especially on this day. Especially since Gruden still has a parking space reserved for him at Ricky's in San Leandro.

And yes, it was a fumble.

Morninhweg interviewing with McKenzie today

By Steve Corkran
Friday, January 20th, 2012 at 3:49 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg is interviewing with general manager Reggie McKenzie for the Raiders coaching vacancy today, according to NFL.com.
Mornhingweg has spent the past nine seasons with the Eagles, the past eight directing one of the league’s most-productive offenses. He coached the Detroit Lions in 2001-02, when he compiled a 5-27 record.
Mornhinweg attended Oak Grove High School in San Jose and coached for the 49ers from 1997-2000.
In other news, the Miami Dolphins settled upon Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin to be their new head coach, which leaves Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy and Dolphins secondary coach Todd Bowles still on the open market.
McCoy canceled his planned interview with McKenzie on Wednesday so that he could concentrate on the Dolphins job. McKenzie reportedly wasn’t thrilled by McCoy’s change of plans.
Philbin’s hire also figures to quicken McKenzie’s pace if he has any intention of hiring one or more Packers coaches. Philbin no doubt will consider bringing along Winston Moss, Darren Perry and Tom Clements.
Moss is thought to be the front-runner for the Raiders coaching job, though he has yet to be interviewed.
Bowles and Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen are the only two candidates for the Raiders job known to have interviewed. ESPN’s Adam Schefter maintains that the Raiders interviewed New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr. one week ago, though Saints general manager Mickely Loomis said it didn’t happen.

Lets just interview the whole fucking NFL for this job
I kinda think thats the plan, honestly. Hear me out, Mckenzie has an idea of who he wants; his "short list". Maybe he figures before pulling the trigger he's gonna get everyone who's opinion matters opinion on what the Raiders need, some insight from other teams coaching staffs and football minds, Im sayin if he has the oppurtunity why not pick the all the football-brains he can to see what everyone else thinks about the Raiders. I think he knows as far as 1-3 guys he wants to coach, I just think he's waiting it out until he's ready.
