"bad draft"? Nope, not me. I was miserable on draft day, too. But now the draft is over, and these kids are on our team. The Kipers/Mayock's/McShays are done and gone, and taken their grades with them. Everyone agrees, in the abstract, that drafts cannot be graded until three years later, but no one keeps that in mind when 'actually' talking about the picks.
And that's cool, I love the draft, and wish we had taken better players. Excuse me, players that Scott Wright and Kiper and Mayock had thought were better. Because god knows I didn't watch any Maryland games last year, or any Ohio U games. And you know what? Mayock didn't see any Ohio U games either. You think Scott Wright or Bloom has the defensive tape of Ohio U games? Of course not.
I really wish we had gotten a better grade from the draft guys. Like the year we took Gallery at #2 (over Fitz and Big Ben), and took Jake Grove in the 2nd round. God, we got such good grades that year!! Build from the lines, that's how winners do it, the Raiders got two cornerstones for their line! Nice, safe pick. Or the year we took Buchanon and Nap Harris in the first round. Great picks, both of them, nobody said anything but great things that year.
I hate the years when we take players like Nnamdi Asomougha. We got laughed at harder than DHB that year, because the 'experts' had him ranked as a fourth rounder, maybe a 3rd. Do you remember that year? I do. Luckily, we made a comeback in the 2nd round, because we got a true weapon in the passing game when we took Teyo Johnson.
All I am saying is that we are all so sure of things before the draft, myself included. But a month after the draft, the draft grades mean nothing. I've seen too many good grades be wrong, and vice versa, to let one draft of 'perceived' bad value change my mid about what has been, IMO, a very good offseason.
