Blight, aside from the whole moral dilemna, do you honestly think that this wall is going to stop Mexicans from attempting to cross the border? It will make it harder, but a wall is definitely not going to change the economic situation in Mexico, therefore people will still attempt to get across. This is why I see the money that they are spending on this project as a huge waste.

Build a wall the whole way, put up minefields, alligators in the Rio Grande River. Hire more border security, place checkpoints along the border for legal entry, start a migrant worker program again that works, so we can still have the labor, Mexicans can still get paid and send it home, and so we can know who is in our country and when. Almost no where on earth can you just cross a border into another country (youd be shot) and Illegal Immigrants are ILLEGAL and should be punished just like any of us would be punished for doing something illegal (ie. smoking a joint, speeding, beating your wife..etcetc.) America needs to get real and understand that the world isnt like us, and we are hated. Terrorism is the in weapon at the moment and we need to be prepared.

I don't recall Brother Blight mentioning anything about morality. Are you talking to him or me?

No, this wall will create even more problems. The current rate of illegal immigrants can actually climb when you think about it. More may try to enter america now because it may be harder to enter when the wall is finished. The problem stems from capitalism and the mexican governments inability to face the problem head on. In addition, the hypocrisy of the mexican government doesn't help much either.

IMHO, this can't and won't be fixed. America will be overtaken by illegal immigrants, racial hostilities will climb due to several sides trying to preserve culture, resources will become scarce, and conflicts for/over such resources will be an everyday thing. The air and water will be polluted, and literacy rates will plummel while incarceration rates, crime stats, drop out rates and death due to disease go through the roof. Most citizens (legal and illegal) will be at or below the poverty level, and the economy will collapse (if it hasn't collapsed before then.)

This shouldn't even be compared to the Berlin Wall. Berlin Wall = Keep people from leaving. This wall = keep people out.
Exactly.

The Berlin Wall was built so that a prosperous Communist state wouldn't lose professionals and other valued workers to neighboring countries (specifically West Berlin). If they did so, it would have resulted in economic and political instability (this ultimately happened).

Mexico is not a prosperous anything and the majority of illegals that are coming to the U.S. are not valued workers or professionals. So the loss of a few million people won't hurt them politically or economically. In fact, it probably helps them (Mexico's second leading source of income is money sent "back home" by Mexicans overseas [specifically the U.S.]). I would dare say that the Mexican government wants more of them to come over here.
