cool thread. but as long as people are using Islam for their own greedy needs then the true essence of religion will never be realized. my 2 cents
And this is why religion is bullshit because the majority of people who "believe" are really self centered. Now while I'm not a big fan of religion, I still respect the people who actually live by their religion. Like for instance, my company did a 4 million dollar job for a church in one of the richer neighborhoods in my city. The whole time I was wondering why this priest, who is supposed to not be beckoned by wealth and riches, really needs to live in this $250,000 home (yes I don't live in cali) and have a multi million dollar church. Its because deep down he is truly self centered.

Especially when I met a priest who has a really old run down church, that sleeps in a fucking shack right behind it, who once told me he could have a really nice church and house if he really wanted to but in his heart he knows that to really get his message across he doesn't need any of that. I can respect that...

Also Christianity and Islam are very similar .
These do not seem very similar to the teachings of Christ

“Punish the unbelievers with garments of fire, hooked iron rods, boiling water; melt their skin and bellies.” Koran 22:19

“Do not hanker for peace with the infidels; behead them when you catch them.” Koran 47:4

“Terrorize and behead those who believe in scriptures other than the Qur’an.” Koran 8:12

“When opportunity arises, kill the infidels wherever you catch them.” Koran 9:5

“Slay the unbelievers wherever you find them.” Koran 2:191

“Make war on the infidels living in your neighborhood.” Koran 9:123

^ nice post. yeah, if you read the books its very 'dont fuck with them, fuck with me' like....thats pretty much why i strayed to buddhism/hinduism while reading alot of islamic text. I still hold some of the beliefs of islam true i just wouldnt call myself a devout followee.

Its always enlightening to read up on it though.

my personal introduction to it was the autobiography of malcom x, which as a young black man really helped me and im sure it helped others. really thats what i first took from islam, it was a way of reprogramming some of the things america makes us think we have to do in order to fall in line/survive.

Read a little harder through the Bible my friend - you'll find similar passages that refer to violence against non-believers.

It's just not the Koran.

Which is more violent, the Bible or the Quran?

Which is more violent, the Bible or the Quran? Is there a way to objectively answer such a question?
Well, it wouldn't be easy. But it is possible to compare the amount of cruelty and violence in the two books. Here is a summary of the highlighted verses in the SAB and SAQ.
Number of Cruel or Violent Passages Bible 842 Quran 333
So the Bible has more than twice as many cruel or violent passages as does the Quran. But the Bible is a much bigger book. How do they compare when size is taken into account?
Violence and Cruelty Total verses Percent Bible 842 31102 2.71 Quran 333 6236 5.34
When expressed as a percentage of cruel or violent verses (at least as marked in the SAB/Q), the Quran has about twice that of the Bible. (5.34 vs. 2.71%)*
Of course this analysis does not consider the extent of the cruelty in the marked passages. And that is an important consideration. Is Numbers 31:14-18, for example, more cruel than Quran 5:34? That is something that each person must decide. A good argument could be made that either book is the most violent and cruel book ever written. The award would go to one or the other, for neither has any close competitors. It is frightening to think that more than half of the world's population believes in one or the other.

All religious texts advocate some sort of violence. You'd be a fool to think just once holy book does and another doesn't. But you probably were watching MSNBC or someshit.

You obviously haven't read the old testament lol... This new "god" in our times is soft compared to the "old" god.

i honestly think we'd all have been way better off without the whole judiasm/christianity/islam thing. i'm cool with buddhists, hindus, and indigenous peoples beliefs. there just like modern forms of paganism and have coexisted more or less peacefully for thousands of years. they just agree to disagree instead of agreeing on 99% of there beliefs but vowing to kill each other over the 1% in which they differ. I think we need to return to the roots we had before "god" showed up. more like the devil in disguise if you ask me.

just my worthless two cents...

much respect for Gas and anyone else that has a thirst for knowledge and any overstanding of the worlds religions.

Something I find interesting about Islam is that the Quran was written and compiled by Mohammad while he was alive (written and verbal from what I understand). The belief that the Quran was directly revealed to Mohammad by God is one central difference between the Quran and the Bible, which even christians will agree was compiled after Jesus, often many years after, wheras the quran was completed some time before the passing of Mohammad. Never been to church before but it seems like both religions have very similar teachings.

An important lesson I've soaked up in regards to religion is thats its really about THE MESSAGE, not the messenger. You haffi focus on guiding principles, rather than the person delivering the message. Cause generalizations and biased thoughts are a bitch.

great points...thanks for adding on to the discussion...

in a way i knew this was gathering of minds worthy before i did it. But one thing sticks out to me...They once asked KRS one why he performed 'aw yeah' a pro-black song on soul train, one of the most coonerific shows out there. Well apparently don cornelius spoke to KRS and wanted him to perform it directly. they both had a understanding that thats where it needed to be performed, where all the shuckers and jivers were because thats where the message needed to be heard, at ground zero.

a little off topic but it does relate to why i posted it here. open forums all jokes but i dont think we should be above a little knowledge here and there sprinkled in with the intelligent discussions we have at times, as well.

theres alot of arguments not based on facts around here...like someone said we can learn something and go back to being a more educated asshole...lol

I actually came to that same realization just a few weeks ago (about the open forum.) Jokes are needed in regards to having a happy existance, but they are also highly overated, especially in these serious times.

I do appreciate all the laughs out on the open forum and thats why I check it daily but honestly I prefer a lot more than just shits and giggles when socializing. Lol but it is like 99% men on here and we all know one of our favorite past times is to clown and act a fool.
