lol yeah, sure you love it. dana white is a bitch. i think i'd be alot less cynical about the ufc if dana wasnt running things.

EDIT: &, from a completely unbiased point of view, that edgar/maynard (2) fight was not legendary, & wasnt even anywhere near being fight of the year.
From a completely unbiased point of view, it probably will be fight of the year. And it is a top ten fight in the UFC's history. It would've won fight of the year if the fight happened in 2010, instead of the day after.

THAT FIGHT WAS BORING...AND I CAN CERTAINLY APPRECIATE TECHNIQUE AND STRATEGY BUT IT HAD NEITHER

I think what made it impressive is how Frankie escaped the 1st round, and each round (at least when I scored it) went back and fourth to each guy.

It was a good fight. Legendary? Not IMO.

But I could see how the magnitude of the fight, and being that it was a rematch and what not, could add on to it.

^^ true. i could see how they could argue FotY.. but top 10 of all time? no way, thats just crazy. just because a fight see-saws doesnt automatically make it better than a 1 sided beatdown, IMO. like you said-- good fight, not legendary.

I can easily see it placed in the top ten fight's in the UFC's history..

Look at the top ten from the countdown they did..

10. Forrest Griffin vs. Mauricio Rua
9. Mirko Cro Cop vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
8. Karo Parisyan vs Diego Sanchez
7. Rich Franklin vs Anderson Silva II
6. Rich Franklin Vs Anderson Silva I
5. Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir
4. BJ Penn vs. Georges St. Pierre I
3. Matt Hughes vs. Frank Trigg II
2. Wanderlei Silva vs. Chuck Liddell
1. Stephan Bonnar vs. Forrest Griffin I

... I know that list is garbage for the most part but that fight would be ranked higher than a lot of fights in that list right there.

that list was garbage, so how maynard/edgar 2 stacks up against them means nothing to me. i mean, how do they not even bring up fights like ortiz/(frank) shamrock. given the feud between tito & the Lion's Den ("gay mezger is my bitch" lol), the magnitude of that fight at the time, the way it ended, etc.??

or fights like this, with goodridge.. where i personally witnessed my very 1st crucifix (outside of religion, that is).

maybe the goodridge fight wouldnt make the list, but its more significant than many that were listed.

i'd also place this on my list, along-side ortiz/shamrock--- sobral/heath. so classic & brutal.. http://www.mma-core.com/videos/_Renato_Sobral_vs_David_Heath_UFC_74?vid=10001320

that may be the current ufc's list of classic & important fights. but those are by no means the greatest fights in ufc history.. not even close.

EDIT: also, saying griffin/bonnar is one of the ufc's top 10 fights of all time is an insult to the organization..

my god, the more i just think about the sheer magnitude of the fighters who have competed in the ufc (militech, jeremy horn, rutten, KEN shamock, fuckin Gracie, etc, ..the more i discount any notion that edgar/maynard could be anywhere near a top 10 fight. its an insult.

guida has had 2 or 3 fights better than that one, & he wasnt even listen.

it might be one of the most important because of the time it came, etc. but a sloppy slugfest cant make the top 10 IMO. just like i couldnt call a hip hop album with no real content a classic, even if it has a huge impact on the genre @ the time.

lol every one of Fedor's fights is better than Brock-Murr and Cro Cop-Gonzaga. 'Cept maybe the 2nd Kohsaka fight, but that's just because I don't like watching Evil Fedor try to hurt TK for giving him the cut loss.

And Diaz vs. Karo/Diego/Lawler were better than Forrest-Bonnar

Strikeforce Video: Fedor Gearing Up For Return Against Silva

Fedor Emelianenko is in a situation that he’s not all that familiar with. When he steps into the cage with Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva on Saturday night in New Jersey, Fedor walks in with the weight of a loss on his back.

Fabricio Werdum submitted Fedor this past June, stunning the mixed martial arts world.

The Russian Emperor makes his return, looking to get back to his dominant ways, after lengthy negotiations with Strikeforce and Showtime kept him out of the cage.

The fight against Silva is one of the first two quarterfinal bouts of Strikeforce’s eight-man World Heavyweight Grand Prix. The other, also taking place on Saturday night, is former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski versus Sergei Kharitonov. Also in the tournament, but fighting at a later date, will be Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem, Werdum, Josh Barnett, and Brett Rogers.

Fedor has been training hard for his return and below is a short video special that Showtime produced leading up to this weekend’s fight.

Fedor Emelianenko Voices Questions About Overeem's Weight Gain

Fedor Emelianenko insisted he wasn't "insinuating anything" on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour, but at the same time, even he seems curious as to how Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem managed to pack on so much muscle in the last few years.

"Alistair Overeem is a great fighter," Emelianenko told MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani via a translator. "He is very strong and is a very serious fighter. Lately he has won a K-1 tournament, as well. The only question I have [is] how he managed to gain 20 kilos of weight in such a short period of time. But frankly speaking I don't care, if he passes [the] drug tests successfully."

Of course, one of the questions raised by Emelianenko's management at M-1 Global recently was exactly what form those drug tests might take.

With Overeem's rapid weight gain, speculation has run rampant as to what might have been fueling his sudden increase in muscle mass. M-1's Vadim Finkelchtein threw more fuel on that fire by publicly calling for Strikeforce to conduct 'strict drug-testing' for the tournament, saying he wanted to make sure that Emelianenko's opponents were "professional fighters, not chemists."

Though Emelianenko pointed out that the Olympic-style drug-testing request was Finkelchtein's idea and not his, he said he supports measures to make the competition as fair as possible.

"I completely agree with Vadim regarding the idea that all the fights have to be very honest, and all the sportsmen have to be clean and they have to work under equal conditions," said Emelianenko. "It's not a secret nowadays that a lot of sportsmen use drugs trying to increase their strength, their speed. I think the fight has to be honest."

As for the tournament itself, which kicks off this weekend in New Jersey with Emelianenko taking on Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva in the first round, the Russian said he was a fan of the format, and predicted it will boost Strikeforce's profile among MMA fans.

"I like tournaments and I participated in such tournaments already. They're very interesting because with every fight only the strongest fighters stay. That's very exciting. ...I think Strikeforce will become even more popular because of that tournament, because they managed to get together very good fighters, very strong fighters, very spectacular, very interesting [fighters]."
