yeah i got a midi keyboard. Im finna pick up a triton extreme in the next few days. Does anyone know, if i use a triton extreme as a midi controller for reason and to control itself to record in cubase (id be using cubase, reason 3.0 and cubase) would I also need a special Midi box that tells the signal where to go or could I just do that on the extreme?
Regarding pricing. I've sold beats from $150 to $2,500 (to lyricyst, signed to sony records look out for his album middle of 2006) and everywhere in between. Like 50cal was saying whats expensive to some people is in expensive to other people. I remember one time a guy called me wanting a track and i quoted him at $600, dude practically started yelling at me about taxing him and this and that. About a week later I get a call from someone else wanting the same beat, I quoted him at $600 too and the guy ended up buying that one for $600 and 2 others for $600 a piece also. He thought he was getting a good ass deal.
I hate it when people take it personally when i quote them a price higher then they want to pay. I've had the "producers need to realize they aint dre yet and they cant be chargin no $500 a beat..." talk and the "you never gonna get recognized without a rapper on ur track, were helping you out..." talk and more. But honestly what rappers need to realize, If i quote someone at $600 and won't let it go for less...Its not because im trying to tax people or because I think im some super producer that anyone paying less isn't worth my time or some shit...it's not that at all, all it is is that I rather Own the beat and NOT have $600 then have $600 and not own the beat...it's as simple as that.
the problem is some of these rappers dont have much experience with dealing with other producers outside of dago, and sometimes there is a vicious cycle of bad business in dago, and the cycle keeps goin.sure its all a hustle but if you wanna career treat it as a business.I was talkin with a homie and I was talkin about prices on beats and I said i probably could get him some beats for 500,or even 100 or 200 and it seemed like 200 was even too much .he said If someone quoted him 500 hed probably fire off them.I have a friend who charges about 1500 average,Its funny cause he goes in these studios and these other producers are leavin in there benzes and shit and he stabs out in the hooptie. His credentials are real big but In my book you only as big as your last hit,or sale,so If you told me you did shit for ruff ryders or what not I wanna know what you done recently, back on subject my friend should be chargin to some of these established rappers at least 10,000-
20,000 .I told some rappers I done projects with that the beats I payed for were 500 a pop and If we just sellin under 5000 thats it but anything bigger he wants his points and they looked as if he was ripping me off...hahahha.Damn thats just industry standard, plus him doin the beats he would be half the reason we get in that position...shouldnt he benefit as well..Its funny cause I tell him oh so,and so is lookin for beats he says yeah cool he got the money? He says i dont care who he is . who he knows. what kind of deal he is workin with,I just wanna know if he got the cash ..if so we can deal, and Like you he will work with you depending on your status, and If you got cash in hand,he will make one on the spot for ya, did the same thing for c-bo, and gangsta from the comrads. But what makes a producer mad is when he brings down the price and you try and bring it lower, or how about this Ill get you on the backend, def jam is interested and they want me to submit a project...my homies like you he said the same thing..his beat is worth more to him..he would rather have it then give it away for a small price...He says whether someone buys his beats or not he is cool he will make them anyways cause thats what he like to do
