Sludge Metal recommendations?

So in like the past 3-4 weeks I have gotten into Sludge Metal a lot. I'm wondering if people could make some recommendations on some lesser known good bands and/or some classic Sludge albums.

I already know about/got albums by these bands so you can leave them out...

Yeah I just picked up Dopethrone. That album is sick from front to back. My friend and I had to go to Mount Vernon today to pick up some of his stuff and we listened to it from front to back. The bass guitars on that album are dope as fuck.

Boris is extreme sludge, and they do alot of just noise rock too. Not my thing, but yu may dig em.

What's the difference musically between sludge and stoner metal?

Sludge has a hardcore punk sound while Stoner has a more psychedelic sound. And lyrics to I guess.

Bardopond is the poster child for sludge.

Bardo Pond does have a "sludgy" slow sound yes, but sludge bands are metal bands which Bardo Pando is more of a psychedelic rock band. Great band none the less though.

I guess i see sludge in more of a stoner rock form....but again, these genres are all screwy becuase so many bands just dont fit one mold anymore.

I actually see bgands like Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix as sludge rock....to an extenet. Slow, hard guitar playing with mid tempo drums and passionate, dranw out lyrics of drug use, love/pain and even the bashing of corporations...

Yeah I agree 100% Jesse. Plus now of days so many bands are incorperating other sub genres of rock into their music and the such. I mean look at Between the Buried and Me, I don't even know what you would call them.

I feel the same way about TFOT. I dont know what they are and frankly...i dont care! They just make awesome music...and that is what really matters in the grand scheme of all these crazy genres.

BTW, do you like Black Label Society? I just got the discography and i like their shit...you could even call them somewhat sludgy as well.

I've only heard a few songs by Black Label Society. They were alright at best. What album would you suggest I download and give a proper listening to?

Their first album Sonic Brew that came out in 99 was their rawest IMO. I got a shitty version of it, but i still liked what i heard. Plus, how can you go wrong with the lead guitarist of Black Sabbath?

Damn I must got away from metal too long, this the 1st time hearing of sludge metal. The only band I heard OF is Crowbar.
