Since when are Portuguese people white?

Yea, but you have to understand that race "color" is made up/artificial labels that we put on each other. Like you pointed out, you can be "white" in most people's eyes, but don't identify with it, because you feel strongly connected to your Portuguese culture. Everybody on the planet, besides white people can be characterized as Brown, besides whites, but are they all the same? No, that's why discriminating somebody based on the color of their skin is retarded and nonsensical. That's why Racism is wrong. Because it's foundation is wrong. You can't expect that everyone that has a certain pigment will behave in that specific manner. (I lost myself towards the end, but hopefully you get what I'm trying to say)
Portuguese are as white as Italians. That is to say that until very recently they were not considered white. Most, if not all, Mediterranean people (and even Germans like good Ol' Hitler) weren't. But it is the COMMANDO's opinion that anyone of European descent is white. But that's simply because I like to perpetuate the "us" vs "them" mentality.
this whole "proud to be white" thing has been covered in COUNTLESS threads on here so let's not make this another one.
Point is, I'm Italian and Portuguese and have NEVER thought of myself as anything other than "white" when put in simple terms. You can be proud of your heritage but when it all boils down to it, a Portuguese person will get called "whiteboy" just as quick as some dude from France lol

^^ So long as you know what connotation that label carries to other people, and it's all good.
And shit, I have very little Indian blood in me and am mostly made up of Spanish and French blood. I look very white, especially without a mustache. People call me whiteboy all the time, yet I have never considered myself "white". I do understand that the fact that my parents were the ones who moved to this country and not my great great great grandparents, so there will be different notions of self.
identifiying yourself white doesnt mean you jumping on some hate bandwagon, you need to quit living in the past, maybe its all this classification of race thats just seperating everyone, I may be Italian, Mediteranean, european, eastern hemispherical, whatever, all i know is im a californian and i have a job and too many bills to pay to care how a select few amount of people care to classify me
It's a tale of who got violated. White = The part of the World primarily invaded by Goths/Nordics. Just how it is. Turkey is of course different because they were the seat of the Ottoman empire.
