look i aint hear to argue with nobody, but think outside the box for a minute eveyrone. ur right no one would show without a name, thats why you would use some business smarts and hire talent to headline the event. if u ever been to a battle, there is usually a master of ceremony hosting the whole thing. get a name to host the event, in between rounds the host performs himself.
so for example, book dude like quinn or 40 or whoever to master of ceremony the show. people pay to see quinn perform and to see hungry emcees battle it out for fame and name. plus at any poppin event you got bitches and drank, people will come. promo the show on the radio, print up flyers, word of mouth, etc.
you gotta know how to promote and market things. obviously you aint gonna sell RAPBATTLE: NO NAME RAPPERS!...but what will sell is THE BAYS PREMIER HIPHOP EVENT: HOSTED BY E40 etc etc. market it as an even and a party, market it as a whos who in bay area rap type event.
