Seahawks offensive lineman Jarriel King was arrested in South Carolina last month and faces a charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
He was released by the Seahawks on Monday morning after the team learned of his arrest from a South Carolina TV station's report.
King, 25, joined the Seahawks one week before the 2011 regular season began, claimed off waivers from the New York Giants. King attended South Carolina and was not drafted last spring. He appeared in one game for the Seahawks, but remained on the roster throughout the year.
He was arrested along with another man in South Carolina on Feb. 26. According to an incident report from the North Charleston (S.C.) Police, King was arrested after a 25-year-old woman alleged she drank alcohol with King and another man at one of the suspect's houses. The group then went to a club before returning to the house and continuing to drink.
According to the victim, she was offered a place to sleep at the suspect's house. The victim said when she began to feel "lifeless," she lied down. The victim said she was forced to have sexual intercourse with first one suspect and then the other. She said that she repeatedly told both men to stop.
King and Arthur Lee Denson-Holmes were arrested less than 24 hours after the alleged incident occurred, according to the police report. King posted bail of $25,000 the day after his arrest, according to online records from Charleston County court. His next hearing is scheduled for May.
The Seahawks were not informed of King's arrest before Monday when WCSC Channel 5 reported the details.
