Breaking down the 2011 schedule
The 2011 schedule has been released. Check out some news, notes and tidbits from the Seahawks’ 16-game slate:
» The Seahawks start the season with two straight road games — at San Francisco and at Pittsburgh — before returning to Qwest Field for the home opener on Sept. 25 against Arizona.
» Four of Seattle’s first six games are on the road. Four of its last six are at home.
» The Seahawks play three straight home games in the second half of the season, a homestand that includes primetime games on a Thursday night (against Philadelphia on Dec. 1) and a Monday night (against St. Louis on Dec. 12).
» The primetime contest against the Rams will be Seattle’s first Monday Night Football appearance in more than four years, a 24-0 win over San Francisco on Nov. 12, 2007.
» With just two home games in the first seven weeks of the season, Seattle doesn’t play its third contest at Qwest until Oct. 30 against Cincinnati.
» Road games against Pittsburgh, New York Giants and Cleveland in the first half of the season mean the Seahawks are in line to play just one game in potentially cold-weather conditions — at Chicago on Dec. 18 in a rematch of January’s snow-covered playoff game. Besides the Bears game, the San Francisco season opener and the three early-season East Coast trips, Seattle’s three other contests are all in domed stadiums (Dallas, St. Louis and Arizona), all of which happen to land in the latter portion of the schedule.
» After playing all 16 games on Sunday in 2010, the Seahawks will play three non-Sunday games this fall — a Thursday nighter against Philadelphia, a Monday nighter against St. Louis and a Saturday day game against San Francisco on Christmas Eve.
» The Seahawks’ bye falls during Week 6, though they’ll have a pseudo-bye later in the season with 11 days between the Thursday game against the Eagles and the Monday game against the Rams.
» In 2010, the Seahawks opened and closed the season at home against divisional opponents. In 2011, they’ll open and close the season on the road against divisional opponents.
