Retired safety Rodney Harrison told PFT Monday night that he has spoken to his former Patriots teammate and close friend Richard Seymour about the deal that sent Seymour to Oakland.

And?

"He's not thrilled," said Harrison, now an analyst for NBC's Football Night in America. "Who would be thrilled to go to the Oakland Raiders? Maybe somebody who's happy to just get a chance but not a guy like Richard Seymour, a five-time Pro Bowler. For a veteran player to go to Oakland at this juncture it's just difficult.

"Put yourself in his position," Harrison added. "He's going from a first-class organization to one of the worst in the NFL. You have the head coach fighting the assistant coaches, the owner involved in the day-to-day operations, guys who don't believe in the quarterback. . . . Tom Brady to JaMarcus Russell? Come on. Is that something to look forward to? Why would he be excited?"

Asked if Seymour would report to the Raiders, Harrison said, "I don't know that. Only Richard knows that. But I wouldn't go to Oakland. There's no way in the world I would go to Oakland. The only way I would report is if they promised they wouldn't franchise me after this year." ProFootballTalk.com

I will never understand why they cant talk to the player before accepting to trade a 1st round pick for him, like if NE accepts the trade, the player should then have to accept and sign then and there. If not, no trade.

coz then more the half the trades in NFL would not happen...players would dictate where they want to go and teams would have alot less options they can trade their player for...

also, thats what the no-trade clause is for...

I have never heard of it done this way, must be an American trade system for your sports, but its fucking horrible. Its the player who should decide where he wants to play, not the team.

What do you think the negative of this would be?

like i said, the players would hold out on bad teams and only go to teams with great chances of winning the championship. For one, it takes away options from the team taht wants to trade its players and second it keeps really bad teams from getting better.

Obviously, the players can do what Richard Seymour is doing and hold out or not show up and force the team to trade him to someone else.

This also happens in draft sometimes like with the chargers drafting Eli Manning and he did not want to go there. The chargers ended up swapping picks with the Giants and traded Eli for Philip Rivers straight up.

Look, the players are getting paid Millions of dollars, the least they can do is show up and play for the team thats willing to give them this much money. And if they really are concered about getting traded to a bad team or just somewhere they don't want to live, they can take a pay cut during negotiations and put a trade clause in the contract....

I was under the impression that if he does not show up or play for the Raiders they still lose the 1st round pick, correct me if I'm wrong.

Trading players without their consent doesn't seem right, it might be the norm in America thats why people are used to it and don't see it as a problem, but let me use soccer as an example.. Other clubs must first contact the team about a player, make a deal (straight swap with another player if they want or just cash) then after the deal is made the purchasing club makes a deal with the player as well and if all is agreed the player moves clubs.

No salary cap in soccer but you get my point.

^^^doesn't work like that over here man...you signed a contract with the team and they can trade you whenever they like unless like i said before you put a no-trade clause in your contract.

as far losing the 1st round pick goes, well I think the raiders have the option of trading him to another team and try to get something for him, I doubt they can get a first round pick in return tho.

these player really piss me off your getting paid millions of dollars to go out there and play football yet they go out there and bitch and throw hissy fits. Grow the fuck up sign your contract report to your team and earn the money that your being paid. Just be glad your not working somewhere making minimum wage like the average joe is.

Harrison can talk bad about the Raiders all he wants, he just has bad memories of getting burned all the time. He can hit but he has always been terrible in pass coverage and the Raiders used to abuse him.

yup.

exactly why i thought deon sounded like an idiot on the whole crabtree situation. Talkin about he deserves more money...dude hasn't played a down in the NFL, why does he deserve more money? Talkin about he doesn't need the money so hes not gonna sign unless he agrees....if he doesnt need the money, why is he holding out for more....

go out there and play like a star for a couple of year and then you can demand a bigger pay check...there are contract re-negotiations in the NFL and i'm sure if hes shown something, the team would like to keep him for a longer time with a more lucrative deal...

WELL IN MY EYES, AT LEAST..LOL

BUT YEAH HOW THE FUCK DID YOU LET THAT GUY GET AWAY!??!
His last season here he played with a torn groin..dude wrapped it up and hit the field every week. He felt like he put his career on the line, at the time the chargers had no depth. He struggled that season and afterward the chargers told him he was done and let him walk.......

And Tony is right, his pass coverage was always weak. But that's not why he said what he said, he said it cause it's true
