I understand that winning is important, and its good that you guys won. But you can't make the mistake of saying that the win has any type of indication about your team. I mean...do you guys really think that Andy Reid lost any sleep over the game last night?
Or to put it better...who was more pleased with their final product: Art Shell or Andy Reid?
I'd pick Andy Reid.
Who got the win: Art Shell or Andy Reid?
Art Shell.
I'm not hating on you guys and I do hope you do well throughout the season. I'm just saying...the significance of a preseason NFL win doesn't hold ANY weight in the NFL. What, offhand, was your preseason record last year? You don't know, do you?
The year the Eagles went to the Superbowl, they were 2-2 in the preseason. How in God's name did a team at .500 go to the Superbowl? Because it doesnt matter.
But Tony, I've been thinking this all day and I forgot to mention it, you made a good point: Randy Moss. You guys didn't use your best receivers, so it would be unfair for me to say that your first string was worse than the Eagles first string - except for the fact that your weakness is in your offensive line, and you could have had Moss and Porter out there and it wouldn't have made a difference.
This is nothing more than a scrimmage with referees, and it is practice. Valuable practice that your O-Line needs to mesh. And you're right...the players went out to win...but I doubt the pre-game speech was something Mel Gibson would have used in Braveheart before some crazy ass battle. Ya feel me? Congratulations on the win, but don't glorify it.
