One thing you two don't apparently have is close relatives in JW. That shit is a cult, straight up. Not only are their interpretations wack the way they handle business is a joke.
What JW does is try to build a member's dependance on the church. The second someone joins they slowly encourage them to drop all close friendships with people who aren't JW, they assemble JW youth groups and social functions, and they encourage members to give heavily to the cause.
While this may sound normal, good or dandy, the real intention is to build someones life structure around the church so that if they decide to leave they have nothing to lean on. My uncle was once heavily into it. He came over to my place trying to talk to my folks about it. Luckily my pops was on point with the whole business and had a version of the Kingdom of the Cults book or whatever that was current back then, they get updated like every 5 years. Anyways that book has info on all sects considered 'cults' by mainstream Christianity. I would recommend anyone interested in this topic to check the book out. Very informative and extremely good reads. And before you all start bumpin the gums about brainwashed sheep and go with the flow and bla bla, dont even start. I'm not going to say every religion in the book is a cult, or that I support the book or whatever. Anyhow it has in it crucial refuting questions to ask members of the respective cults My pops asked my uncle a few from the JW section. Not only was he stumped, he left our house a short while after that. He went back to his church leader or whatever and told him and the church leader said that my family was a 'sinful influence' and 'full of the devil' bla bla and all this. Before my uncle got excommunicated by the church, his side didnt speak to ours at all.
Anyways his family got expelled for some kind of minor shit like not preaching enough or wearing a blue shirt on saturday I don't know, but after they were kicked out, all the members of the church refused to acknowledge their existance. They said it was the strangest thing they had ever seen, the JW folks would stare right through them like they didnt exist. This isnt some crazy militant sect either, this is common practice.
JW say they are christians but one of Jesus' main points is acceptance and love. JW has none of that for non or ex members who dont want to convert. This type of activity isn't the work of enlightened truth sharers, creating an all-exclusive club and trapping members inside, refusing to listen to or battle with outside views, and making people dependant on the church. Any religion that does not let members move freely or open their minds and consider other things sounds more like a cult to me.
