If you don't like funerals, you can do what Preach did in Cooley High. Wait till they all left and say goodbye in your own way like he did. I don't think not showing up to the funeral means you are disrespecting, there's a lot of ppl who can't handle funerals. Nothing wrong wit that. I think what counts is that you say goodbye somehow in your own way. At the same time I feel what Caff is saying. Sorry about your friend man.

I hate funerals and usually don't go unless I go with someone else for support (not that I don't need support too)
It's always devisated to loose a friend or family member, death is never fun but I find that as I get older it a little easier to accept and know we all face it. I usually go to a viewing instead of the actual funeral or if I miss it, I make a point to go take flowers at the cementary.
Everyone pays respects in different ways, as long as you do it.
