^well no shit, of course sony is gonna fire back.

i'm willing to bet most people who wanna copy games don't give a damn about online, not to mention theres a quite a few devices out already in which u can use to hack the ps3, nokia n900, dingo, usbkey ect.

only thing that's a waste of money is buying games at 65+ a pop, an these fools that charged $150 for the fucking thing, they stupid too.

now it's open source....pretty soon it should even be possible to JB your ps3 via iphone and psp.

time will tell, but POC has been released, so we'll see.

my only concern is if it'll let u install/play newer games which are higher than 3.41 fw...i would say no but who knows.

the ultimate goal on ps3 will be cfw, just like on psp, but seeing as dax has been awol forever, i would say theres a very slim chance there will ever be one.

regardless, this shit is still pretty good, not every game works, but i'd say more than 95% of them do, just a rough first-impression guess but probably not far off.

lastly, to those who wish to upgrade they're existing ps3 hd's for more space, don't get a 2.5 hd bigger than 640 gb since they won't fit inside, an yeah u can go external but dump/read speed is faster with an internal hd among other things dealing with files over 4gb, another option would be to buy the kit that allows you to hook up bigger internal drives externally.

yea they are working on dozens of ports all the time and even got wind of starting emulation for a Dreamcast and Ps2 for it lol.

what kit? they are working on allowing ext hds to format to other formats to allow for that higher than 4gb single file. and im sure its gonna open the gates for hds as big as 2tb or so . ima cop a 1.5 internal and split it and play it off my hd dock/usb

more bang for your buck with internal vs ext buying + i doubt the speeds are gonna dredful via ext rather than gettin a bigger 2.5 sized hd...although it would let me format the ps3 as new with new accounts and no game data on them (u gotta delete alota old game data for alota games to work)

I have a jtagged xbox 360 and once games are ripped on the hard drive it is a file structure not an iso so then you just remove the system update folder and you'r good to go. I have read that ps3 games are also the same. Can't say for sure I don't got a ps3 and of course I can never play that 360 online.

pretty simple.....sony backwards engineered the software found the exploit and patched it...game over

you can continue to use ps3 jail break if you dont update...unfortunately, its a mandatory update so if you dont no online for you
god damnit MO if you dont know facts shut your trap. keep your gullable bs to urself.

i believe i did say exactly that

point is...its just going to go back and forth between hackers and sony...until either group does something that the other cant work around

fuckin bullshit too that i have to put useless updates on my machine because a select few......meanwhile sony could have been working on making the ps3 a better system with updates that matter....i fuckin know how this will play out...there will be another mandatory update to counter again...and then another..and another...a stupid circle...all to play a burned game...too much work

it's patched...lol
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-11213618

Sony has closed a loophole that allowed users to run software that enables pirated games to be played on the PS3 console.

The update blocks the PSJailbreak and PSGroove applications.

Mathieu Hervais, one of the developers behind PSGroove, told BBC News that it was "safer not to update" if users wished to continue using the hacks.

Sony won a court order in early September banning the distribution of the PSJailbreak dongle.

The update is the latest step in Sony's ongoing battle against the commercial dongle - PS Jailbreak - that allows users to play pirated software. It also targets open source code, known as PSGroove, which allows homemade games to be played on the console.

While the PSGroove software was not originally intended to allow the playing of pirated games, as PSJailbreak does, it has already been modified by other hackers to permit the practice.
Mixed response

It is the continuation of a cat-and-mouse game between hackers and the electronics giant, which started when PSJailbreak first appeared for sale on website.

The USB dongle was the first hardware hack of Sony's secure games console.

Sony has since obtained a court injunction preventing the distribution of the PSJailbreak dongle in Australia.

The firm has also filed a US lawsuit against Zoomba, a firm that runs a site selling the device. Distributors in the Netherlands have also told the BBC that they have received court documents banning the sale of the dongles.

However, Sony has now decided to tackle the problem head-on by releasing a software update for the consoles that block the hacks.

The new patch received a mixed reception from the gaming community, with some users praising Sony for its prompt action, while others were more critical.

"Every time there is an update, it's a security patch I don't care about," wrote one.

"Give me something that will keep me occupied like more visuals on the music player, a way to delete trophies for a game I don't have anymore, backward compatibility for PS2 games, better video chat.

"You guys don't take to many suggestions from your players. If you listen, I mean really listen, to the ideas you will be top," they added.

Mr Hervais told BBC News that it did yet know how Sony fixed the security flaw.

Sony declined to comment on the specifics of the update, but a spokesman told BBC News: "Since this is an overall security related issue, we will not be providing further commentary to this case.

"But as we always have, we will continue to take necessary actions to both hardware and software to protect the intellectual content provided on the PlayStation 3."

only 16 bucks, an it's still "internal" to the ps3 of course, yeah it sticks out like a sore thumb but still, more storage is more storage.

installing games to an internal hd is much faster than external aswell, playback is generally better internally too i'd say, not to mention the whole 4gb file deal with externals.

so yeah go for a 2.5 internal no bigger than 640gb/9.5mm in height OR opt for the hd extender kit an basically use any 3.5 internal drive.

I have a jtagged xbox 360 and once games are ripped on the hard drive it is a file structure not an iso so then you just remove the system update folder and you'r good to go. I have read that ps3 games are also the same. Can't say for sure I don't got a ps3 and of course I can never play that 360 online.
yea i hope, we'll find out sooner or later, i think there should be a method to patch/remove stuff from the game that would allow it to boot on the lower fw.

20 with tax. but that looks like u gotta open up the ps3 to install the card for it though. i think for now a ext or a int in a ext hd dock will suffice cause speeds wont be that horrible on em . they arent on my wii. and i can get a 2tb and split it .. hell by the time i get around to getting it they will have a newer version to format to ntsf too..

btw theres a ftp app around for it now u CAN transfer larger than 4gb single files to the internal with it.
